Your Time to Shine

Like many science teachers the Walrus is a straight to the point sort of guy. He writes his name up on the board and starts teaching right off the bat. There seems to be something wrong though. Everything looks a little to simple for you. This was all stuff that had been taught a few years ago at your school. You try to get Zen’s attention and by the way his ears swivel in your direction even though his eyes don’t you can tell you have it.
“Hey Zen,” you whisper, “This is a normal class, isn’t it?” You wonder if this is a class for special students. It just does not seem like this class is up to your level.
“No, this is the advanced class. You aren’t finding things too difficult are you?” Zen asked while giving you one worried glance. Now that took you by surprise. This was the class for their best science students and this was the advanced material. You thought that the teacher must be taking things easy on everyone on the first day or he was just taking it easy on you.
Your opinion began to change quickly though. As the class went on you kept answering all the questions while everybody else just stared at you. The walrus asked you to give the other students a chance at answering questions about halfway through the class. Even then you were the one that ended up giving the right answer more than half of the time. While the carnivores in the class looked like they admired you, the herbivores were shooting you some nasty looks. They probably did not enjoy being showed up by you. Fortunately there were only two of them in this class and that made them a little easier to ignore.
You tried to think of why you were so much better in science than even the best of the anthro students were. That probably had to do with your size. Humans just had to be better at things like science to have survived in the past. By the material you could tell that the anthros weren’t dumb. A smart anthro was definitely far smarter than a dumb human was, but a human genius should be able to top an anthro anytime if this was as good as they got. Still, science could just be a weak point for them. You would have to see when the other subjects came up.
It might not be a good idea to be such a shinning student even if you are smarter than the anthros though. The herbivores don’t seem to be taking to well to your performance. You try to imagine what it would be like to have a bunch of 20 foot tall angry herbivores staring at you for an entire class. That would definitely throw you off your game. It was only possible in this class because of all the carnivores. At least you know why Zen thought you would be good in this class.
The bell rings and it is time to move onto the next class. Your teacher congratulates you which makes you feel good after having to deal with being outshone in all your other classes. Zen picks you up and starts taking you to your next class. “Wow, I had heard humans were smart, but that was absolutely amazing. You might want to be careful in math though since Corneil is in that class too. Corneil has been the top student in his math course for the past five grade levels and I doubt he would take it well if you took over his spot,” Zen said.
