What Happened Last Night?

You find yourself at the back alley of your local grocer, and look to see a pair of men talking to a police.

"So you say something came into here last night and just started eating everything?" asked a police man.

"Yeah!" went one of the men, "It was really big and really fat! I couldn't really tell if it was man or animal,"

"It was really strong whatever it was," said the other man, "Before long, almost one third of all the food here was gone! The baked goods section, especially our new shipment of powdered sugar donuts, has been cleared out!"

You blink, before noticing something odd. There's some white powdery stuff on your fingers and you look closer, reconizing it. You taste it and realize it's powdered sugar! What happened last night?
