Freya slept well and awoke at the crack of dawn to start her new assignment. Thr royal stables were several miles from the city of Treno, so she took a Chocobo carriage for faster travel. The royal Chocobo stables were the largest and most elegant in the entire kingdom; many wealthy merchants, dignitaries, noblemen, and noblewomen were among its frequent patrons. Freya knew failing such an important job could reflect badly on her reputation. The carriage finally slowed to a stop, and Freya stepped out. A tall, stout man in bright blue overalls rushed from one of the open pens when he heard her approach.
"Greetings, I am the stablemaster, and you must be the new stablehand. I hope you are ready to work hard, and do not mind getting dirty."
The man extended a well-muscled hand and gripped Freya in a vice-like handshake. The man's sheer strength almost brought Freya to her knees. He quickly released Freya's hand and blushed in embarrassment. Freya managed to maintain her composure. The stablemaster flashed Freya a look of admiration and stepped closer to her.
"Forgive me, I always keep forgetting my own strength. You will need to change your clothes before starting today's work. Here is your uniform, and you can change inside the house."
The stablemaster tossed Freya her uniform, and she caught it in her arms. He pointed to a small stone cottage a few yards from the stables. Freya hurried off to change her clothes and returned several minutes later. The pair walked into the stables, and Freya wondered what her first task would involve. They stopped in front of an occupied pen, and the stablemaster finally spoke.
