Chapter #23At the Hokage's office by: Galan   They all arrived at the Hokage's office while Hiruzen was pondering at the situation of what he was told, Ayame was still standing there with a blank expression and Naruto felt horrible while Teuchi was understandably worried.
"That's the situation Lord Hokage." Iruka told him.
"This is troubling indeed, and you say this was due to a gem you found in the scroll?" Hiruzen asked
Naruto nodded sadly, not looking up.
"I see, to think a powerful gem like that went unnoticed, as though you were meant to have it." He mused. "From what I can tell the light you stole was her soul, I heard rumors of such a thing was possible but I disregarded it as mere hearsay, though now I wish I payed more attention."
"Can she be fixed?" Teuchi pleaded. Hiruzen looked saddened.
"I'm afraid not, all stories I was told about soul stealing and not one of them had a way to regain what was lost." He explained.
"No." Naruto really felt like crap now.
"However, there might be a loophole, you said she obeys your every command correct?" The Hokage began.
"Yeah, why?" Naruto wondered.
"What if you were to order her to act like she has a soul?" He asked.
"That might work, give it a try Naruto." Iruka urged on.
"Alright, Ayame act like you have a soul." Naruto ordered and sure enough she 'sprung' to life.
"My goodness, that was a nap." Ayame stretched. She turned around in confusion and bowed to Naruto "Hello Master, did you bring me here?"
"It worked." Teuchi cheered. "She still obeys him but I'll take it at this point." Ayame blinked.
"Huh, so I do, it's alright father, I don't mind." She shrugged.
"Right, she acts like she has a soul, but she still doesn't have one." Iruka mused.
"It's better than nothing." Teuchi mentioned "So what now?"
"We need to keep this private, if word reaches the council's ears and they'll have Naruto's head for..." He trailed.
"I know gramps I was told, and not by you." Naruto growled. Hiruzen looked somber.
"I'm sorry Naruto, I wanted to keep you safe." He said.
"Safe, Safe?!" He shouted. "You call being abused and hated and not knowing why safe?!"
"Calm down Naruto." Iruka begged but Naruto had none of that.
"For years I had to suffer wondering why everyone hated me and all you said was 'I don't know' or 'give them time' you knew, and you didn't tell me, why?!" He demanded.
"I'm sorry, I thought it was for the best." Hiruzen sadly explained.
"A bit late for that." Naruto spat "I lost all my respect and trust in you, I wouldn't be surprised if you're hiding anything else from me."
Hiruzen looked away in shame and Naruto's eyes narrowed.
"You are, aren't you?!" He growled.
"I'm sorry Naruto, I truly am." Hiruzen said in shame. Naruto spat.
"Yet you still keep secrets, if we're done Lord Hokage." He sadly coldly, Hiruzen flinched at this.
"We're done, again I'm truly sorry, I hope it time you'll forgive me." He sadly muttered.
"Tell me what else you're hiding and I'll consider it." Naruto demanded.
"I can't." Hiruzen said.
"Then I have nothing further to say to you." Naruto walked out in a huff.
"Wait for me Master!" Ayame ran to catch up to him.
"Give him time to cool off, he'll come around." Iruka mentioned.
"Maybe." Hiruzen said. "Right now, I'll do what I can to make it up to him, Teuchi, I'm sorry, but your daughter must live with him now, it's safer for her."
"I understand." Teuchi replied "I hope he treats her right."
"If anyone will treat her right, it's Naruto." Iruka assured. "At any rate how do you plan to make it up to him?"
"By doing what I've should've done, ensure a good life for him, starting with a good sensei and teammates who like him." He said.
"Any ideas?" Iruka asked, Hiruzen was in thought about this before he answered.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
