Chapter #10

She'll notice the shirt and ask about it

    by: who-me Author IconMail Icon
Jezebel waited patiently for her daughter's return. "I wonder what damage she caused in her first outing?" Jezebel thought, looking through a new spell book she received. Jezebel heard the flapping of two huge wings and watched the entrance. Her daughter soon appeared.

"Hello mother," Auorora said, coming in.

"So, where did you go?" Jezebel asked, with a hint of excitement.

"To a huge farm," Aurora replied, "I did a diving burn into one of the buildings and then killed the farmer's family easily."

"Very good my daughter. Were the fields on fire as well?" Jezebel asked.

"Oh yes, they were burning nicely," Aurora said.

"Oh you make me so proud A-" Jezebel started when she noticed something on her daughter's wing. "Aurora, what's that on your wing?"

"What?" Aurora asked, looking and seeing Matthew's shirt, still being used as a bandage. "Oh that," she answered her mother, "Just some deception."

"What do you mean?" Jezebel asked, seeing there was no way for her daughter to tie that herself.

"When I was killing the farmer I was human size, so one of his kin attacked me from behind and hurt my wing. With it damaged, I couldn't fly. After growing, I went to the only remaining person and had him use his shirt to mend the wound."

"You let him touch you? Why didn't you just burn?" Jezebel asked.

"Even though I can burn to heal any wound, it does make me really hungry afterwards. I didn't want to fly back on an empty stomach," Aurora explained, "So I had him get on my back and he wrapped the shirt tight enough to allow for it to heal. Then killed him."

"Oh, that's why you called it deception," Jezebel replied, "Very nice work my dear. I'll get started on lunch, then you can go to the town."

"Yes mother," Aurora replied. Jezebel walked to an open spot in the cave and started chanting some words. Suddenly, a cow and a bull appeared, having been summoned from some farm within five miles.

"Thanks mother," Aurora said, grabbing the two animals and feasting on them. She had some blood on her beak as she left the cave. "Good bye," she said.

Back on the farm, Matthew waited for his phoenix woman to return. As he waited, he made graves for the farmer and his sons next to his already dead wife's plot.

"Will she come back today or not?" Matthew wondered.
