Chapter #39

Getting to Know One Another

by: Bruce Lee Gifford Jr. Author IconMail Icon
"It's possible that you've become part phoenix when you burned with Aurora. Both of you were reformed. So, part of each of you might have been transferred to each other. It looks like Claz has gained some of your abilities," Daichi explained.

"You mean, Claz is immortal like me?" Aurora asked.

"It's possible," Daichi answered.

Aurora looked down at Claz again and nuzzled him. "Did you hear that, Claz? We can be together forever now," Aurora said cheerfully.

"I wish I could have said the same about my lover," the werewolf commented.

Everyone's attention turned to the werewolf. The werewolf was still crying, but she was up to the glass now. "I was in love with a human too," the werewolf informed Aurora, "But those men found us, killed David, and took me to this horrid place."

The werewolf began sobbing. Aurora knew what it was like to loss someone she loved. She had lost Claz twice which helped Aurora understand the werewolf's pain. "I'm sorry for your mate," Aurora informed the werewolf.

"You have nothing to be sorry about. It wasn't your fault that David's dead," the werewolf said, "I'm just happy that you and your human can have a better relationship. My name is Evelyn, by the way." Evelyn the werewolf walked to the back of her cell again.

There was a long moment were no one said anything with their telepathic minds. Trying to break the silence, Claz suggested, "Why don't we each talk about ourselves? You know, to get to know each other better."

"And why would we want to talk to a human?" Dracus asked.

"Maybe if we knew each other better, we could work together better. Besides, you don't want to just stay here for who knows how long and never know who each other is," Claz explained.

"He does have a point," Daichi agreed, "Maybe we should start with Harper, then Circe, then Debra and so on and so forth till we get to Evelyn. So, Harper?"

The harpy was silent for a while but she eventually spoke up. "My name is Harper and I'm only twenty-five. it would probably make me one of the youngest in here," she told everyone, "I lived in the mountains with my family. I had a simple and happy life, away from cruel and monstrous humans. However, those men found me while I was hunting. I've been here for a year now and I have no idea if my family was captured or not. I miss them. I think you understand why I don't trust you, human."

"I do understand. The only humans you came across were cruel, but not all humans are like that," Claz tried to assure her.

"I guess it's my turn," the siren said, "My name is Circe and I'm thirty-six. There's not much to say about me other than I've been alone most of my life. I lived in the desert luring and devouring any human that I could find. My mother taught me that humans were nothing but heartless creatures that deserved to be food and nothing more."

"My name is Debra, and I'm twenty-seven," the dridder said next, "I think I've already explained that I lived in a swamp. Humans never bothered me there, and since they didn't try and kill me, I don't mind humans. I even saved a few of them that were lost or drowning. Eventually, two evil humans found me and captured me. I've been here for five years."

Debra looked up to the minotaur across from her, and everyone waited for him to tell his story. The minotaur only grunted, "I do not wish to talk about my past. It's pointless."

"You can at least state your name," Daichi said.

"It is Torus," Torus stated, "But I still won't tell any of you my past. I don't trust any of you, especially the human."

The conversations were weird to Claz, because he had never been discriminated before for being a human. It was obvious there was hatred towards humans in the cell block.

"My name isss Ssseverusss, and I'm about one hundred and thhhhirty yearssss old," Severus said.

"Your mental voice sounds young," Claz commented.

"Assss Aurora hasss ssstated earlier, weee can chhhange our mental voicccesss to whatever weee want," Severus explained, "my liffe isss like Debra'sss. Humansss didn't bothhher me muchhh, and I don't mind them. I'vvve evvvven made a fffew human friendsss in my lifffetime."

Those who could look at Dracus looked at him and Dracus said, "I agree with Torus, this is stupid and I'm not talking about my past. However, my name is Dracus, and I am seventy years old."

"I've lived far too long to keep track of my age and I can't sum up my life in a few sentences," Daichi stated, "but my name is Daichi and I had once fell in love with a human like Aurora and Evelyn."

"Well, my name is Aurora, and you've all heard Claz and my story already," Aurora said.

Aurora looked to Evelyn and...
