Harry wasn't sure why he was spending his free time in the Room of Requirement. Maybe it was because his friends were off on their own, or because he wanted to prevent Draco from using the room. Maybe he was looking for something to give him an edge against Voldemort. Or maybe he was in a place to hide from everyone else.

It really din't matter at the moment. It just meant spending a Friday night here instead of the library. It was quieter and the forgotten trove of books was worth reviewing. Not that he managed to get through most of them. About 90% of the titles were historical references, mainly for the goblin wars and various small skirmishes between magical communities. None of it was exciting. He did find a few spell books hidden amongst the shelves.

It took him nearly a month of wandering through numerous shelves and historical books. He lifted dusty tome after tome from the shelves, glanced at the title, flip to the pages, and place it back. Hours spent checking nothing only to find a single book: Vetiti Magicae Cartus.

The Cartus outlined several spells, most out of his league and skill. He found one that interested him, a single advanced transfiguration spell that required focus and a little luck. Very advanced, like past his NEWTS.

Harry sat at the desk the room provided and stared at the spell. He spent months practicing it, though without a target.His first attempt nearly caused him to blackout. With time, he barely felt the draw any more. The tug on his magic was still there, but it was different, fluid now. He was surprised how much the practice translated to improvement with his basic transfiguration skills. Now, just before Winter Break and a Hogsmeade weekend no less, he felt confident enough to try it out. The spell...
