Jack was afraid that his Dad would lower the boom on him while his mother was away- maybe send him to stay with his cousins or put him in summer school but Jack's dad was making it very cool. He set up a delivery schedule to make sure that there was food in the house. It was mostly frozen and microwaveable stuff and he let Jack adjust the order. Then he gave Jack a credit card so he could take care of emergency stuff. When he got home at night, Jack's dad wasn't into making sure that the two guys got a balanced, healthy meal. They would rummage the freezer or just order out pizza and top it all off with big dishes of ice cream.
Jack's one restriction was that he couldn't have friends over when he was alone in the house. it wasn't bad because he could still interact with Sam on the internet and even compete on-line.
It was boring though after the first day or so and Jack filled the time by taking advantage of the well stocked refrigerator. Without his mother to monitor, Jack let his appetite run wild. He was a growing boy and his appetite was big enough to support his recent growth spurt. With no constraints Jack indulged. He adjusted the order to stock his favorites and gradually he discovered that those servings were just not big enough. He was getting annoyed at waiting and he started cooking two at a time. He developed a pattern of eating and gaming during the day and then followed it up with eating and watching TV with his Dad at night.
Jack's Dad was enjoying all the time with Jack. He felt that all their time together was good for their relationship. The good life though was having consequences on his weight. His pants were getting tight.
It was time for a decision. Should he cut back on the food at night or just buy some new pants
