It was one problem after another for Mai today: she had been challenged to a duel by some creep in a long cloak – which wasn’t actually so odd considering some of the freaks that she had encountered alongside Yugi and the others – only to find out that she had been suckered in a shadow duel. Worse still, she was winning the duel by a rather large amount. Normally she would have been exalted to be winning one of these insane shadow duels by such a large margin, but this particularly crazy match had each person’s weight tied to their life points; as a person’s life points went down, he or she started to look more and more like an emaciated skeleton, and conversely as his or her life points went up, so too do their weight. Mai hadn’t known about this at first, till her life points took a big hit and she was nearly reduced to a stick figure. Boosting her life points afterwards hadn’t worked out well either, ballooning till her formerly just tight clothes had nearly ripped off of her fattened body. It didn’t help that her opponent kept playing cards that tended to boost both of their life points at the same time, though Mai’s near constant attacks meant that her foe’s points never remained that high for long.
An errant thought of what might happen to the loser brought another shudder to the now bloated woman, and this caused another wave of disgust at the feeling of her flesh wobbling from the motion. These shadow duels were already bad enough, but this one seemed likely that it would consume the loser’s body plus whatever else might happen. Plus, she regretted to think about what might happen to the winner too, a quick glance down at her bloated body bringing a grimace to her face.
Mai shook her head and turned her attention back to the duel; her turn had just finished and she had really sent her opponent reeling from her attack, and – though it was hard to tell because of the loose flowing cloak– it looked like her opponent was really feeling the loss of life points. The shadow duelist drew a card and shocked Mai with a loud cackle, before playing the new card. Bracing herself, the blond waited to see what would show up on the field.
