After pressing the button on the collar, a feeling like vertigo washes over you as your mind struggles to make sense of your surroundings. It takes several moments before you regain enough of your senses to take in the surroundings. Instead of standing, you are suddenly lying down on something soft. Light was pouring in from something beside you, a window. You look to your left, seeing a parking lot outside. "Where..." You recognized one of the many parkings lots for the town's local mall. You slowly tilt your head to look forward. You recognize the inside of a car, your brother's truck. Country music from a radio station was softly playing in the background.
Someone's breathing from beside you catches your attention. You turn and see your brother sleeping directly beside you and very close. However, you did not care about the distance between you at the moment. "How did I end up in his truck?" you ask out loud, putting the pieces together of where you were. "What button did I push?"
You lean back against the headrest and your right ear lightly touches your brother's ear. "What is going on?" You scratch the top of your nose, in the space between your eyes. You abruptly stop and stare at your hand, realizing two things at once. You were missing your glasses, and the hand that you used to relieve an itch was not yours. Your missing glasses were a minor problem, considering you seemed to have good vision all of a sudden. What really concerned you was the stranger's hand. It was your brother's left hand. "What the hell?" You quickly looked to your right, staring at your sleeping brother's too close head. Look past, you noticed that the middle and passenger seats were empty. You and Robert were both in the driver's seat. You lifted your head all the way from the head rest and saw the reason why. Both of you heads were joined to the same body, his body.
You gawked. An invisible line seemed to split his body in half. You only had sensation, control of the side your head rested on. It felt as if you had been cut in half even though you could clearly see one body. "Shit!" you swore. You wiped sweat that had formed above your eyebrows. "What did that thing do?" You closed your eyes and tried to think. "Calm down. I need the collar. Which must still have been at home, in my room." You slowly turned to look at Robert. You were not sure if your should try to wake him or not. You carefully felt along the side of the driver's seat. Finding the handle controlling the seat, you slowly ease into an upright position.
Staring forward, you notice the mirror inside the sun visor. You reach and adjust the mirror to see your reflection. "Is that me?" You adjusted the mirror multiple times to make sure you were not seeing things. "I look just like Robert!" The mirror clearly showed a face nearly identical to your brother's. You had the same goatee, the same eyes, and the same dimples. Your hair was dyed the same color, but you had it cut longer. You gripped the steering wheel with your only hand to steady yourself. "What the hell did this thing do? I need to drive home?" The image of an accident popped into your head. Driving would not be a good idea in your condition. "Shit!" You closed your eyes and banged your head against the seat rest. Unintentionally, Robert began to wake. He opened his mouth and yawned loudly.
