Chapter #8

Robert freaks out when he sees you

    by: Ctbro Author IconMail Icon
You were not sure what to do as Robert stirred beside you. Watching in silence, he lifted his hand above his head. You felt your mutual back try to arc as your brother stretched, his side of the body. He wiped the sleep from his eyes, seemingly obvious to the situation. However, it did not take him long to sense someone was staring at him. He slowly turned his head. His face morphed into shock when he saw you. "Wah!" a startled cry left his lips. He jumped to the side, or at least tried to. His body barely lifted out of the driver's seat. You watched as Robert's gaze shifted to his body, your shared body.

You quickly slapped your hand over his mouth before he could scream. "Don't scream Robert." You tried to say as calmly as possible, even though you, yourself, were confused about the situation. "Its me, Steven... sorta of..." You opened your mouth to say more, but you were at a loss of words.

Robert yanked your hand away from his mouth. "Steven? Y-You look like me!" Robert stuttered. His gaze then shifted back to your body. "Why dod you look like me?! Why... How are you on my body! What the hell is going on?!"

"Uh..." You dry swallowed. You were conflicted about whether to tell him the whole truth or not. Given the situation, you decided that the truth would be the best option. As you and he only had control of half of his body each, you would need Robert's help to find the collar. Besides, you rationalized that you were never really good at lying; your brother had a good ability of knowing when you were less than truthful. You explained what you knew, which was still very little. You retold about the strange message you received in your dream this morning but chose to ignore it, and how after a mid-day nap you woke up with a strange collar around your neck. "My head was then gone after pressing a button. It was frightening. I was blind and deaf... I could only feel with my hands. I pushed another button hoping that my head would come back, but... now we're...."

You watched as Robert closed his eyes, as if he was processing all the information. After a few moment, he opened his eyes and stared at you, "So you're saying that you have... some magic collar that... did whatever this... is?!"

"Look, I don't know how it did... this. But, we have to get back home. The collar will still be in my room." You emphasized going home. "I'm sure it can fix whatever it did to us." At least, you hoped it could. You chose not to share that little bit.

Robert took a deep breathe. It was a strange sensation, feeling your chest rise when someone else took a deep breathe. "I can't believe this is happening... Okay, we go home." Robert grabbed the keys and turn the ignition.

"What are you doing?" You asked, surprised by him turning the car on.

"Going home." He stated simply.

"We can't drive!"

"How else are we going to get home!"

"Walk. The mall is not that far from the house."

"Oh, yeah... walk. I'm sure no one will notice some two-headed dude waltzing down the sidewalk."

"And no one would notice some two-headed guy trying to drive down the street? We're walking."

"No, we're driving!" Robert stated. He went to place the car into gear, but you reached across and shut off the ignition. "What the fuck, Steven!" He tried to turn it back on, but you wrestled his hand to keep it away. Your body rolled back and forth. Your legs flew around, kicking wildly. A snap and the resulting thump of something falling made you both stop fighting. The two of you stared at each other for a second before looking down to see what was broken. The keys for the ignition had snapped clean off. "Steven! You broke my keys!"

"Well, I guess that means we're walking now." You said, trying to hide your smirk.

Robert growled, clearly not happy. "Fuck you." he finally said. You and he had to lean forward so he could pick up the broken car keys from the floor.

You then felt for the door handle and lifted it so the door would swing open. You and Robert next attempted the task of maneuvering your body out of his truck. It was far harder than you would have thought; you had underestimated just how difficult cooperating your two halves was. Robert grabbed the handhold along the side of the interior, and you tried to lower your foot to the ground. Your foot was not quite planted on the ground when Robert tried bring his leg around. The two of you lost balance and landed on the hard asphalt.

Your hand stung, but you ignored the pain. You and Robert slowly brought yourselves back onto your feet, using the truck for support. "Brilliant idea Steven! Walking is such a better way of getting home."

"Shut up!" You glared at your brother, though you were having second thoughts about walking all the way back home. It suddenly seemed like a very long distance even though it was just a mile. "You still have your cell phone, right? We could call Mom to come pick us up."

Robert rolled his eyes, "And explain this how? 'Hi Mom, can you come pick Steven and I from the mall. We can't drive home because Steven used some magic collar to turn us into some two-headed freak!'"

"You forget about how I look like your twin now too." You said in your best condescending tone. That earned you a glare from your brother, but he did not say anything else. "Then we walk home. Stop complaining."
