The meaty model with the face of an angel has just shown up for his audition for “Ferngully: the last Rainforest” the live action film and he seems pumped to be in his first feature film. His was one of the first agents you called, as the hunky tanned Austrian seemed perfect for the role of Zak Young. You’ve been auditioning muscular tan blondes all day and have a small cage full of boys you’re saving for a “callback” backstage and a stomach stuffed with those who didn’t make the cut. Fortunately you’ve already narrowed down your search for “Pip” to a few lean redheads, in a nearby cage.
“Welcome Florian. I see that you’ve signed all of the necessary paperwork so we can begin the screen test just as soon as you’re ready. The plan is to do the Goanna song. Are you familiar with the film?”
Florian grins with that cocky, yet somehow innocent look of his. “I have watched it three times since my agent gave me the call” he eagerly pronounces each word carefully in that lovely accent of his. “But how will this be done? With computers or-“
“There’s definitely a computer involved Florian, but we found that it’s actually more cost effective to green screen one character instead of two and then putting them together. The Goanna will be in front of a green screen so they can computer generate his appearance after the scene. You, however, will be exactly as you appear.”
Florian wrinkles his perfect forehead and crinkles his nose for a moment. “But aren’t I too big? Won’t we need two green screens so I can be small and he can be a big lizard?”
“That’s where the computer comes in. The scene will be the Goanna’s Kitchen in his home under some rocks. He’ll have a full kitchen so the lyrics about the different ways of- er- making you a snack will make sense. It’s a little bit more cartoony of an idea than the original which is kind’ve Ironic, but it saves us having to film you running through a giant forest.”
“I still don’t-“ he cuts himself off. He doesn’t understand and just resolves to stop asking questions and trust in the direction. “Well who is playing the goanna?”
“That’s the beauty of using computer generated animals. I’m going to be playing the role, and my arm will look like a tongue coiled around you in the finished product.”
Still not fully grasping how he will ‘look’ small, Florian just decides to read through the script and nod with acceptance. While he is busy preparing you set up the giant kitchen in front of the green screen, don your green suit, and hit a few keys on the computer, readying the shrink ray.
