Chapter #5Ravens and Revelations by: Null "You want to get a bite at the house?" you ask over the loud growls of the raven's stomach.
Anemone opened and closed her beak soundlessly in surprise for a moment before she found her voice.
"I'd love to." she said excitedly as she rose to her feet.
You quickly take her clawed hand in yours, asserting your acceptance of her to the big bird. Once you had led her outside the structure you let go of her hand to turn off the barn light and close the doors behind you, making sure they were secure before returning to the large raven, offering your right hand to her. Her avian smile was barely visible in the cold winter dusk as she accepted your hand with her left and began to walk towards the house with you by her side.
Turning your head slightly, you covertly examine Anemone as she walked beside you in the fading light, feeling the warm scales of her four-fingered talon rub your hand. The great black bird must have been somewhere around eight feet tall. Your eyes move along the raven's slim figure, taking note of how the structure of her legs below the knee resembled a true raven's feet. You look behind Anemone for a moment, watching her tail feathers bob as she moved before turning your attention to her large wing. From what you could tell the wing was composed of a series of long overlapping feathers that covered her arm from the shoulder to the back of her hand.
Your gaze then came to a rest on the feature you had purposely ignored while scanning the raven's body; her bust. Your eyes were just about level with those curious orbs that bounced slightly with every step she took. From your current angle Anemone's feathery breasts looked to be nearly as big as your head! If she had nipples they were certainly hidden well by the inch or two of plumage that added to the size of her bust.
You quickly turned your eyes from your new found source of lewd thoughts, counting backwards from ten and trying not to blush as you looked towards the dark house no more than fifty feet away.
It was then that the raven's hunger made it self heard again, her belly letting loose it's loudest growl yet. Anemone continued to walk towards the house as if nothing happened, her puffed up feathers giving away how embarrassed she really was. You give her hand a reassuring squeeze as you reach the deck, her claws making an audible clicking as she stepped onto the wooden planks beside you.
Your destination was the sliding door that led into the living room where you hoped to entertain your mysterious guest. Luckily, renovations you had done to the house after your parents death's should make it possible for someone of Anemone's size to come inside without any serious trouble.
You release her hand as you open the glass door, warm air escaping past you into the cold night as you step inside to hit the light switch. Taking a quick glance of the room, you see nothing that would impede Anemone's first venture into the house. You direct your attention back to the tall raven who was now fidgeting nervously outside the door a foot shorter than her.
"You just have to duck your head to get inside. The ceiling is high enough for you to stand up straight." you assure her.
"It's not that." she said before she ducked into the house, closing the door behind her. She give a shy smile before she says, "I was just having second thoughts again."
"There's nothing to worry about." You tell her with a grin as you admire her under a proper light. She didn't have an hourglass figure but she was certainly something to look at. "You can rest on the couch while I-" you pause moment when you remember you're dirty from working outside before finishing your sentence, "-get cleaned up so I can make dinner."
"Okay." she replied happily as she made her way towards the furniture you had pointed out to her. You watch her as she carefully settled onto the cushions without squashing her tail feathers as she looked around with great interest.
Seeing that she was okay in her new environment you quickly made your way to the bathroom and proceeded to take the fastest shower of your life. After getting dried off you dashed to your room where you then broke your record for getting dressed as well. Making your way into the hallway adjacent the living room you ignore how messed up your brown hair was as you discreetly checked on your guest as you moved into the kitchen.
At some point Anemone must have unlocked the great mysteries of the TV remote because now she was leaning forward on the couch, staring at the active television across from her with the remote clasped awkwardly in her hands. The raven was so mesmerized by the tube that she had forgotten to be embarrassed by the now continuous rumbling of her gut that you could clearly hear across the room.
Smiling to yourself, you make your way to the fridge to gather the cold cuts to make a sandwich that could hopefully silence the bird's stomach for the time being. Using your entire loaf of Italian bread(think shorter and fatter than a baguette) you slap together a sandwich you certainly would have trouble finishing in one sitting. Since almost all of your cold cuts went into the monster sandwich, you just threw some cheese between two slices of white bread for yourself. You put the sandwich on a plate and then carefully balanced her's on top before walking into the living room.
You were surprised to find Anemone sitting on the edge of her seat as she gawked at extravagant foodstuffs on the food network. The fact that she was able to find what she clearly wanted most right now amused you to no end as you made your way to the couch. The raven managed to break out of her trance as you sat down on the couch, her eyes meeting yours before they found the sandwich in your lap as she leaned back into her seat. Gone was the naked hunger that had dominated her features moments ago.
"Sorry." she said anxiously as she handed you the remote.
"It's nothing to worry about." you replied, waving off the apology as you turned off the TV and gave her the sandwich. The bird was in awe of the gift as she held in her clawed hands, however, that awe soon changed to hunger as she lifted it to her mouth. It was your turn to gawk as Anemone stuffed the entire sandwich through her open beak and then proceeded to swallow it whole. You knew birds couldn't chew, but you had expected her to at least swallow the food in smaller portions.
You took a small nibble of your pathetic cheese sandwich before you put it aside and watched the raven ruffle her feathers and gurgle in satisfaction over the meal. Surprisingly her gut ceased it's constant noise almost immediately.
Anemone suddenly leaned over and wrapped her arms around you in a tight hug. Your insides squirmed as you found yourself in the feathery embrace you had secretly hoped for since comforting the black beauty in the barn. Resting your head against her bosom, you listen to her breath and heartbeat as you wrap your arms around her. Her black feathers dominated your vision as you felt the bottom of her beak rest against the back of your head. You basked in her warmth and affection for a few minutes before she broke the silence.
"I'm so glad the others were wrong about you." she whispered into your hair as she nuzzled your head, raising even more questions in your mind about her. You decided it was time to ask some of them.
"Who are the others and what did they say about me?" you ask in a gentle tone while making sure you don't get any of her feathers in your mouth.
"The other animals on the farm are like me Zack." she said as she continued to hold you close after she dropped that bombshell.
"And what were they wrong about?" you probed before you could get distracted by the huge implications of what Anemone told you.
"They said I wouldn't be able to get close to you because I didn't belong on the farm, but you didn't chase me away, and you even gave me your food!"
The joy in her voice was unmistakable as she started nuzzling your head again. You let her do as she pleased as you processed what was said before you asked your next question.
"How did you get this way?"
Anemone ceased to shower you with affection at the question but she continued to hold you close anyway as she answered you.
"We don't really know what happened. Five years ago during early spring all the animals on and near this farm suddenly became truly self-aware and found themselves in human-like bodies at night. We realized very quickly that we had developed other strange abilities as well and that all young born near the farm were changed like us."
You mulled over this information in the arms of the great raven but you were unable to come up with any plausible reason why whatever had happened, happened. Anemone then volunteered some more information she probably assumed you were curious about.
"It wasn't fair of us to keep on hiding what we are from you. It was so obvious that you cared a lot for the animals when you took care of the farm all by yourself after your parent's died." She released you from her embrace and took a hold of your shoulders. Anemone lowered her head so you could better look her in the eyes before she spoke, her voice dripping with emotion.
"I couldn't stand leaving you by yourself anymore Zack. You shouldn't be alone when we've been here all this time!"
News of why the raven had done what she did was an emotional sucker punch you weren't prepared for. It was painfully true that you had withdrawn from the world after your parents were caught in that DWI accident four years ago. That someone as self-conscious and anxious as Anemone had exposed herself for your sake left your insides in knots. Your gratitude for her presence exploded and you soon found yourself desperately hugging the raven. Anemone returned the gesture and held you close as you cried into her soft feathers in thanks. You heard and felt the raven give off a gentle crooning as you tried and failed to keep from bawling in her embrace.
It took you more than a few minutes to get yourself back together again, your dear friend comforting you all the while.
Once again you found your head resting between her breasts as you listened to her soothing heartbeat.
"Zack, I want to show you some of my abilities now."
You gave her a squeeze and nodded your head in approval of what she wanted to do as you held onto the raven.
