The first friend see once you've arrived at school is Sienna Goldman, who is just pulling into the parking lot in her truck, and you bound up to her with all the energy in the world.
"Hey Sienna!" you greet her happily.
"Sup," she grunts, and nods to you. "You're looking happy for it being a Monday. Fun weekend?" You shrug, but continue to beam.
"It was pretty alright. My parents wanted to do this whole 'family bonding' thing so I didn't get to go out much, though. They bought me these to make up for it." You heft your backpack from your shoulder and pull out a cupcake with shimmering blue frosting atop it and offer it to her. "You want one?" Of course, mentally note, there’s no way she’ll refuse a gift from her best friend.
“Sure, why not? More breakfast for me.” You watch in satisfaction as Sienna takes the cupcake and pops the whole thing into her mouth. You hang in the back of her throat until she’s finished chewing and then slide down her gullet when she swallows. She sways on her feet as you slowly sink into her, and then everything clicks. You’ve become sufficiently accustomed to the sensation of multiple bodies over the course of the weekend, so you feel no awkwardness as a smirk makes its way across your new face.
“Nice,” your Sienna body says. “Got any more? The others’ll love them.”
“Make sure you share them, though,” your Fatima body says as she hands off the cupcakes to Sienna, who tucks them into her backpack. You let the two girls part once you’re finished, marching Sienna straight to her locker to drop off the cupcakes for later use before wiping her memory and dropping down into her mind so you can set about assimilating it. You keep control of Fatima though.
The morning is mostly unremarkable, with you breezing through Fatima’s classes while also listening in to Sienna’s mind. It’s about as loud and chaotic as you expected, but as the day progresses the discord slowly simmers down to a low hum as you continue to absorb her. Her thoughts become more predictable, and by the time lunch rolls around you’re confident enough in your ability to pull off an imitation of her, at least for a brief time.
As Fatima you meet up with your friends outside the building to eat, but not before stopping by Sienna’s locker to pick up the cupcakes. Thankfully it is just the four of you today –you don’t think you can stand Charles at the moment, and he would interfere with your plans anyway. You’ve already got Sienna ranting about teachers when you walk Fatima up to the group.
“What’d I miss?” you ask the group as you plop down next to Sienna.
“Sienna’s serenading us with tales of teachers Drea and I were apparently very lucky to not have this year,” Jelena Petrovic says dryly. You grimace.
“Oh, jeez. Hagerman?” Fatima and Sienna share a lot of the same teachers, but in different periods, so she’s fairly confident the History teacher is the one in her friend’s vocal crosshairs this time.
“All his assignments are so fucking stupid!” you snarl, biting into Sienna’s ham sandwich violently.
“He’s… not the best,” you concede, placing the cupcakes the grass in the middle of the makeshift circle. “Here, I bought some cupcakes, maybe they’ll make you feel better.”
“Cupcakes, Fatima? I hope the offer isn’t exclusive to Sienna.” You shake your head.
“No, go ahead, Yell. I bought it for all of us,” you say, popping a cupcake into your mouth. The worm dissolves into you without a problem.
“Well then, don’t mind if I do,” Jelena says wryly, scooping up one of her own and slurping up the frosting.
“These are pretty good, Fatima,” you remark as you pop a cupcake into your mouth and chew. As Fatima you grin and start to gabble to cover up for Jelena’s silence.
“Yeah, I found this new pastry shop near Keyserling on Saturday. Apparently they’re doing something to their cupcake frosting and jelly donuts that make them taste super good and I knew I had to share it with you guys. I tried asking them what their secret was when I picked them up on my way to school today but they totally brushed me off and said it was a secret.”
“Well it wouldn’t do to have a high-school student replicating your secret recipe, would it?” Jelena says –actually it’s you that says it because you’ve just settled into her. “For now, you should settle for spreading the word about this place. Drea, you want to try one?”
“Once I finish my salad, maybe,” she says simply, and takes another methodical forkful of food into her mouth. You find yourself seized by a sudden impatience. Andrea Varnsworth is a succulent creature, and the thought of having to wait longer to bring her under your thrall… with six eyes you check your surroundings; the four of you aren’t alone, per se, as students mill about outside all the time. That means you’ll have to be even sneakier.
Sienna coughs into her hand, then sidles up to Andrea. “I’m so fucking jealous of you, Andrea,” she drawls, throwing an arm around her shoulder. She gives you a curious look, but says nothing. “All your teachers are totally cool. I wish I had Gladstone for English.”
“It’s less fun than you’d think,” Andrea says. “She loves the sound of her own voice.”
“Guess that’s pretty common among teachers, huh?” You chuckle, and then slap your hand over Andrea’s face. She tenses, but doesn’t panic, and her eyes turn to you in surprise and curiosity. Then, her breath catches as you dart up her nose, and her head lolls. Her eyes glaze over. “Still,” you continue, jostling her body a bit, “must be nice to have a schedule like yours. I want your life so bad right now. Can we swap?” You smirk as you fell another body begin to warm under your control, and let your hand fall back to its place around Andrea’s shoulder. A mighty shudder passes through her body, and you raise your new head to look back at your friend.
“Only if it means you have to be the one who deals with Charles,” you say softly once you’re comfortably in control of Andrea. “I’ve changed my mind; I’ll take the rest of the cupcakes, Fatima, if that’s alright.” Actually, all you do is lick up the “frosting” from the last two cupcakes, then toss the rest into the trash. You flick away Andrea’s memory of being possessed, and then release control of the three hosts you haven’t fully absorbed so you can finish digesting Sienna’s mind and begin on Jelena and Andrea’s.
=====
Sienna is fully yours by the time the final bell rings, and you cross your arms belligerently as you retake control of her. She’s angry, and so are you; before last period you bumped into Kelsey Blankenship and her crew, and found yourself in a brief stand off with the group before they simply turned up their noses and pranced off. It wasn’t an especially novel reaction, but you can still feel mind bridle at the thought of those snooty cunts judging her. And her home life isn’t particularly good either, with her father unmarried and his girlfriend being the absolute worst whorebag, so her only escape is hanging with her bandmates (or her other friends) and drinking.
Despite only knowing her for a couple of days –and only really knowing her for a few hours- you find yourself becoming fiercely protective of Sienna. Perhaps it’s because you’ve had Fatima’s instincts for the past few days or perhaps it’s because Sienna is now a part of you, but you want her to have a less cruel existence. Something about her spirit and perseverance in the face of the universe itself trying to screw her resonates with you in a way you hadn’t expected.
Maybe… maybe you could do something about it? You’ve already possessed Sienna and some of her friends, but maybe you could take others around the school and try to mend her reputation? It would take time, yes, and you’d have to remain in these bodies for a while, but if enough of the higher echelon stopped treating her like a leper or a slut maybe others would take notice and follow suit.
On the up side, the most influential people in the school seemed to be the most attractive, with Chelsea Cooper at the top and snobs like Kelsey not far behind. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
