Chapter #4

Misty

    by: Unknown
It's monday morning, time to get up. Misty awoke to the sound of a can opener grinding away at the top of one of her dog food cans. Breakfast was probably Misty's favorite time of day, she got to eat, then rest awhile before she would go out and play in the back yard. While she was eating, Albert (her owner) grabbed his laptop bag and his coffee and gave her a pat on the head before rushing out the door to go to work.

Now that Misty had finished eating, she wandered over to her pillow on the floor to rest for awhile. Then, she decided that she had some buisness to take care of, so she headed for the back yard (Albert left the back door open so she could go when she needed to). After doing that, she decided that it was a good time to see if there was anything new in the yard. She searched high and low, but everything seemed to be the same as yesterday. But wait, Misty thought she heard someone calling her name, but it was too early for Albert to be home. So where was it coming from? She wandered around and saw an elderly woman who had just moved in next door.

Before you start wondering what is going on, let's get a little background info on our next door neighbor. Her chosen carreer before she retired, she worked at an animal shelter. Every day she saw extremely thin and lethargic dogs in need of some serious help. And after she retired, she grew older and less aware. Now her perception for every dog is that it isn't fed enough, so she is always trying to keep dogs from going hungry, even if they don't need it.

Anyway, back to the storyline.

She had never seen this woman before, but she seemed kind and freindly, so Misty decided to greet her. Misty went over and greeted the woman, tail wagging, and the woman gave her a pat on head and then stared at Misty for a minute. Misty was slightly confused by the woman's reaction, but then she seemed to come back to normal. The old woman looked at Misty and asked " are you hungry? You look starved". And with that she went on her way back to her house.

Once again, Misty was rather confused by the woman's sudden leaving, after all, she really didn't have a clue as to what she was saying. Well, except one word, food, that word made sense. Then the woman returned with a bowl and a can of dog food, she laid the bowl on the grass and dumped the contents of the can in the bowl. Misty was surprised that this woman was giving her food at this time of day, Albert only fed her in the morning and the evening, and she had already had breakfast. Did this lady mean that she got more food? She really didn't care, she scarfed up her second breakfast, liked the woman's hand, and retreated to the house, hunger sated once again.

After a good long sleep, Misty heard the woman calling her name again. What does she do?
