With a flicker of intent, I rewove reality so the dorm’s rooms, not just the suites, were co-ed. Each double room now housed one male and one female student, seamlessly integrated as if this had always been the norm. The shift was invisible to the residents, their memories adjusted to accept mixed roommates without a second thought. I smirked in my borrowed human form, eager to see how this would stir the pot.

I lingered in the third-floor suite I’d chosen, its lounge still buzzing with the four students I’d observed earlier: Jake and Ryan on the couch, Mia at the table, and Sarah on her phone. The suite’s two double rooms now paired Jake with Mia in one and Ryan with Sarah in the other. The lounge, bathroom, and kitchenette remained shared, a pressure cooker for new dynamics.

I didn’t tweak their personalities or decor this time—just let the co-ed rooming work its magic. As I watched, Jake tossed his controller down after a race and glanced at Mia. “Yo, roommate, you stealing my snacks again?” His tone was teasing, but the familiarity hinted at their new shared space. Mia rolled her eyes, waving her highlighter. “Keep dreaming, Jake. Your chips are safe… for now.” Across the room, Sarah looked up from her phone and nudged Ryan. “Hey, roomie, you’re on dish duty tonight, right?” Ryan groaned but nodded, already used to their domestic negotiations.

The air crackled with a subtle shift—shared rooms meant shared lives. Late-night study sessions, borrowed clothes, petty squabbles over desk space, and inside jokes were now inevitable. I could sense the potential for chaos, camaraderie, or maybe something spicier.

Leaning against the lounge wall, I pondered my next move. Should I stay and nudge their roommate dynamics—maybe spark a prank war or an unexpected bond? Or head to another room to see how other co-ed pairs are adjusting to my meddling?

3. Something else

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
