Chapter #5

Helpless prey?

by: evil dude Author IconMail Icon
Instinctively, Frank shone the light on the strange creature and soon realized he had made a terrible mistake. The thing looked vaguely human, but couldn't have possibly been more inhuman. It had long claws, sharp teeth, and worst of all, glowing demonic red eyes. Frank screamed and fired off a shot with his gun as the thing began sprinting towards him. The bullet connected with its shoulder and caused it to stumble, but it just shrugged it off and ignored the blood pouring from the wound. Frank had used the distress to flee deeper inside the store and it was now hurt... but it didn't matter. It had found prey, that alone was more important then any injury it could ever receive, even a fatal one. The monster licked at its bleeding flesh with what could be considered a look of glee on its twisted face. The small shred of a mind it had left knew this would be fun. Most of its other victims hadn't been so helpless, it had to wait for them to make a careless mistake before it got them... this one would be different.

Frank was trapped inside a store that could lose its last light and go pitch black any minute, was small and allowed little room to maneuver, and... it could smell his fear. A fear that the Stalker knew all too well... the fear that came from someone cornered with no way out. Frank raised his gun again and desperately fire another shot. The sound of glass breaking told him he hadn't even come close to hitting his target. One shot left. Frank ran even deeper into the store as the Stalker ran off into the shadows right behind him. "Shit, where did it go?!" He yelled as he moved the flashlight around franticly, trying to get even a tiny glimpse of the demonic predator. Nothing. Not even the sound of growling or heavy breathing. All Frank could hear was his own heartbeat... and that would soon change if he didn't do something. He was about to take a literal shot in the dark when he noticed the aisle between him and the exit was clear. He could make a run for it... and hope that thing didn't jump out and rip him apart. The option of staying here and waiting for its inevitable attack wasn't much better... but at least then he'd have a decent shot at it. What does he do?
