Chapter #5

Flying Dragonette

    by: Unknown
Raven snapped and clawed at David as they struggled on the Arena's floor. The dragonette's claws raked bloody furrows down David's chest as it struggled to get at him. With a final, mighty effort, David brought every ounce of strength he had into another pommel blow. With a traumatized squeak, Raven released his hold on the lycanthrope and rolled away. Shaking the dust off his black scales, Raven stood, watching David rise to his feet, his sword leveled at the dragonette. Predator's instincts ran through the veins of both combatants, and an instant later, they were at each other again. David slashed low with his sword, but the dragonette leapt above the blade. It snapped at David as it came to eye level, but Talis again brought the pommel of his sword up, smashing Raven in the jaw. The dragonette chirped and threw itself at David, who sidestepped and slashed him along the flank. Dragon's blood splashed the ground.
Angry and frustrated, the dragonette spun on David, but the human kept his head clear, and ducked under the leaping dragonette. His sword drew another slash in Raven's black scales, and he landed painfully behind David. Not one to give up, Raven leapt again.
Enough of this. I'll be picking him apart all day. As the little dragon left the ground, David sidestepped again. Already in the air, his wings too weak to use, Raven chirped angrily.
Talis grabbed Raven's left arm, and the dragon seemed to curl up at him, trying to reach David with his legs and teeth, but the effort was wasted.
Pivoting, David threw Raven bodily towards the wall, using every shred of strength he could find. The thrashing dragon struck the Arena's wall and slumped to the ground.
