This was even further into the realm of the unexpected, but you'll go with the flow.
"Yeah, sure," you say, nonchalant, but another point comes to mind.
"You know, this is such a strange day. First, I wake up like I'm wondering in a daze, then you, one of my oldest friends, is all of a sudden interested in me. Pardon my rudeness, but is anything... different going on? I feel like I'm the oblivious part of a joke or something." Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, as the saying goes. Immediately you want to bite back the words, but hold your already-rueful tongue for now.
"I didn't sense anything like that, Ant, but I'll understand if you don't want to..."
She lets her statement hang loosely, giving you her best sympathy face that she has used to overpower you on numerous occassions. Besides, you could see the two of you going far with this, and it had been a plan in progress for you to ask her out eventually. She gives you the same sweet smiles as she sits down, and you hear the slightest creak from her chair as she sits. Making a double-take, you swear she gained at least two more inches added to her since you last looked. You rub your eyes vigorously, and look again.
