Chapter #25

A lot can happen in three hours.

It had been three hours already and nothing had happened. Kurenai had expected her team to at least test the waters sort-to-speak once or twice before this much time had passed. Narrowing her eyes in concentration Kurenai tried to feel out the chakra signatures of her students. Although not a sensor type by any means, Kurenai still had a talent for feeling out familiar chakras. This made finding Hinata the easiest of them. Feeling the young Hyuga girl near one of her hunger inducing genjustu traps, Kurenai felt it best to go and see if the girls training had been neglected as much as she feared. If Hinata had fallen to her genjustu then it would only be a matter of time before she tried to eat and digest one of her teammates. The worst part was that those genjustu could only be broken if you 'knew' you were being affected by them before they fully activated. With her eyes Kurenai was sure that Hinata would see them long before she fell prey to the genjustu. The only other way to break free was for the jutsu caster to release them.

Kurenai reached out, trying to feel her other two students. She couldn't find any trace of them. That left two realistically possible options, as she didn't believe it possible for a genin to hide themselves from a Jounin. The first possible option was that their chakras were too weak to be felt. She could believe this to be true for Sakura but, not someone like Uzumaki. The second option was that they had been eaten by a kunoichi. A Kunoichi’s stomach blocked off chakra to those trapped inside but, it also interfered with a sensory ninja’s chakra sensing abilities.

Kurenai frowned at this. Naruto's chakra was too great to fully suppress, especially for such a young ninja. That could only mean that Naruto had been eaten. Now, while Kurenai wasn't particularly fond of the boy, at least not yet, she knew that if something happened to him then Hinata would be devastated. Sakura seemed like the most likely culprit for such a thing. She had already proven that she wasn't above eating her teammates should the chance arise. However, Hinata hadn't moved from her spot in the genjustu trap area. The only answer Kurenai had for this was that Hinata had eaten something or more like a someone and was now laying back and digesting her meal(s).

A horrifying thought struck Kurenai. 'What if Hinata ate Naruto and was digesting him right now?!?' If this happened then Kurenai wasn't sure what the girl would do upon learning of it. The greatest problem was that it could already be too late. Kurenai hadn't been keeping a very close watch on her students for the last three uneventful hours. If Hinata had fallen to the genjustu early on then she would likely be too far into digestion to save whoever had been eaten. Kurenai hoped that that wasn't the case as she started moving towards Hinata's location.
