As his superiors file out of the council room, the scientist switches the video feed back to the testing room, where prototype #2 is being secured inside a container made from the same metal shielding his small room. The little tabby that had once been a US marine had been picked up and deposited in a cat carrier.
None of the soldiers even turn their head as the cat stares up at them through its cage with wide, scared eyes, mewling at men that it had known; and who had once known it, but now had no memory that he had ever existed as a man. The scientist feels a twinge of guilt.
Unfortunately, the cooperation of his superiors in this reality was dependant on the dramatic non-existence of one Private Richards. Returning him to human form might very well undo that cooperation. Might undo his security clearance.
In all honesty, he doesn't know. But until a time that he does... "Please put Richa - uh, please put the cat somewhere safe for the time being. Make sure it's comfortable and well-fed." He orders through the microphone.
The cat miaows even louder as it and the encased prototype are carried out of the room.
