Ever since I talked to the doctor, I have been in a good mood. All that I had wished for all my life was finally coming to light. I thanked Iole in my prayers for helping make it possible last night and woke up feeling refreshed this morning. It was the day promised to paint the inside walls of the house and I was anxious to get started as it seemed each time I used my power of super speed, I became more and more truly female. "Slow down, honey." scolded mom from the other side of the table. "Save your speed for painting the house."
"I'm sorry, mom." I said. "I'm just anxious to get to work."
Mom nodded. "You'll reach full womanhood soon enough, dear." she said. "You've already reached a level we thought would be impossible for you." she sighed. "Relax, getting yourself worked up will not help you."
"You gonna get hiccups." looking at me, Sam warned.
Mom and Beth giggled. "You tell her, Sam." grinning, mom said.
I giggled myself, though I knew mom was right. I took a deep breath and let it out slow before finishing my breakfast at a slower pace. When I was done eating, Beth came down and we each gave mom a kiss on the cheek before heading out. "We'll be back in a few hours, mom." called Beth. "See you later."
Ten minutes later, Beth and I had gotten everything set up to start painting with newspaper down on the floor and the paint bin in a central location in the room we were starting with. "Okay, Lyssa, as soon as I get out of the way, do your thing." said Becky. "Just wait until I'm out of the room, I don't want to get painted."
I giggled and waited for Becky to step out of the room. Before I could start, though, Beth turned on some music. I let out a low laugh as the song was 'I'm so excited' by the Pointer Sisters. "It's fitting." I thought.
I moved my feet up and down in place in beat with the music then off I was, like a shot, painting the walls as if I were in on video, being fast scanned. Within a minute, the entire room was painted with two coats. "That was fun." I said.
"Off to the next room." said Beth. "Let's go." she paused, looking guilty. "I'm sorry I'm not much help."
I gave my sister a warm hug. "Not much help, really?" I asked. "You've helped me in ways I still don't know how to repay, ever since I started down this road to my dream of becoming a real girl. You've defended me against bullies, taught me girls' fashion, how to wear makeup, pulled an all nighter to research our family history to find Iole...." I shook my head. "You are more help than you'll ever know, sis."
"Thanks, Lyssa." said Beth.
I released Beth and gave her a light punch in the arm. "Come on, sis, let's bet back to work."
Beth nodded and took the radio to the next room, following me. Thirty minutes later, every wall inside the house had been painted in the colors that had been requested. As we cleaned up, Beth and i admired our work. "They're going to think we slaved all day to paint this house." giggled Beth.
"If it were not for my power, we would have." I said, smiling. "I thank Iole and God every day for these gifts."
Beth tiled her head, confused. "Gifts?" she asked.
I smiled. "Super speed and becoming a real girl."
