"You... You are a witch?" Taken aback, I asked. "Can I be changed back?"
"Yes, I am a witch." Calmly, mom replied. "Because you have found my wand, you are a witch now too." She smiled at my pleading eyes. "As to your other question, it depends upon what it is you truly desire."
"What I truly desire...?" Confused, I asked. "What do you mean?"
"It was your curiosity in the magical object that changed you into a girl." Serious, mom explained. "When you completely lose interest in magic, you will change back." She then winced, adding, "However..."
I rolled my eyes. "I know, I'm always so curious."
"Which was why I was careful to keep this secret for so long." Softly, mom said. "Saying you are no longer interested in magic is one thing but actually feeling that way is quite another."
"So... I'm stuck like this?" Tearing up, I asked.
"No, you will be changing back and forth as your heart weighs in on which it desires more, might or magic."
"Is that why I am, err, was one of the strongest boy in town?" Wincing, I asked.
Mom smiled slightly. "You were among the strongest boys in the state." Bemused, she said. "You see, as a son of a witch, you are blessed physically but the girls in this family are blessed magically."
"What am I to do if I change in school?" Wincing, I demanded.
Mom giggled. "Do not worry, Eden." I will cast a spell that will make the change instant and provide a change of clothes." Bemused, she replied. "You will know when a change is coming but it will be up to you to stay out of any awkward situations."
