Uh...Hi-There...
My name is Lincoln Shawnson; my friends call me "Link".
I uh...well I'm not exactly sure why I'm writing this; my counselor suggested that I keep a journal about it - something about coping with the trauma - but I don't think I'm doing it for those reasons anymore. It feels more like I'm doing this like a memoir; after all, these are some important events going on in my life, and I felt like I needed a record of them - so I figured I might as well get them down while they're still fresh in my mind...
But I'm getting ahead of myself; I'm not exactly sure I know where to begin. How about I just start when the strange occurrences began? I'll try to keep it as concise as possible just for simplicity's sake.
It began a few years ago, when a calm unassuming Tuesday night was interrupted by a raucous noise. A bright flash of light illuminated the area as a swirling mass of multi-colored light appeared in the sky. It was - and I shit you not - a (legit) portal; a doorway into another dimension that was cut into our world.
And for those of you who are wondering how I knew about the parts I wasn't there for, the answer is quite simple. You see, it's only because - Shut Up.
An amorphous creature suddenly burst from the portal - a being made of pure energy, glowing blue in the night sky. It looked like a floating ball with only a tail; sort of like a comet. It escaped from the portal and quickly attempted to flee the scene. However, it was followed by several other smaller comets followed it out of the portal - these ones were of multiple colors; an assortment of plain white or silver, some purple, some green, etc. They all began chasing the first one.
The closest one suddenly shot a beam of light towards the larger blue one; it was attacking it. The blue one swerved out of the way, dodging the attack. However doing so slowed it down to where the others could catch up; now all of them were attacking at once, pushing each other out of the way to get a clear shot. From the on-looker, it might seem like each light was competing with each other to catch the larger one.
"Ugh these guys never quit, do they?" the blue one said out-loud. "Well they didn't count on me being able to fly in this world; and they clearly didn't expect to be effected the same as me. Well, let's see how well they adjust."
The blue one suddenly dove down toward the forest below them; the others followed. The blue one swerved in the branches of the trees, being as erratic as possible to try and throw them off his trail. They continued to pursue him, firing their lasers at him. The branches did manage to slow them down and provide him with adequate cover, but so far they hadn't relented the chase.
"Tenacious little buggers," it said. "I've gotta change it up."
When the chase came to a clearing, the blue one suddenly veered up and turned to face it's opponents. Then suddenly it began to glow a brighter blue, before a large blue beam shot from its form. The beam swept across the pursuers and knocked them away. Some of them shattered on impact with the blast, but a few simply retreated. However, one of them managed to fire off its own attack before it was struck. The beam flew toward the blue one and struck him, splashing outward on contact, transforming into a large energized net. It wrapped around the blue one and suddenly caused it to fall from the sky.
"Ugh!" it cried out when it struck the ground. It was clear the creature could no longer fly, although it wasn't truly immobilized. "This form...it's very weak, I'm not nearly as durable as I used to be. I can't stay out in the open like this; more of them are sure to come for me...I need to hide; I need shelter."
The creature saw a nearby boulder formation at the edge of the clearing. There was just enough cracks in the rocks for it to crawl into to make an adequate hiding place. It began to crawl across the ground. As it did, drops of light were left behind on the ground, almost like the creature was bleeding. The tiny little drops were left by a nearby ant-hill.
The ants were intrigued by this strange material left behind and curiously approached to examine it. A few ants must've believed it was a new type of food and immediately went to pick it up. However, as soon as they did, the energy was absorbed into their tiny bodies and the consternation of the ants changed. While the rest of the line was marching back to the hill to rejoin the colony, the ants that touched the light turned away, and instead turned their sights toward the town, visible from the clearing in the forest; it looked to be a long journey for an ant, but they began moving in that direction.
The strange energy creature had finally made it to the boulder and crawled itself up the sides. It was difficult as the strange web it was entangled in limited its movements. But it was able to adequately squeeze itself into the rocks.
"This...this is bad," it said. "In this form...I'm fading...I need to regain a physical form soon, but I don't know how...If...if I can't get some help soon, this could be the end of me...I've got to find some help...Anybody..."
And that dear reader, is where I came in... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
