How about one of these scenarios?

1: Cream comes out of the device looking just like her normal, 6-year old self. However; it doesn't take long for her to realize that reality has been altered so that everyone both sees and treats her like she was a 30-year old...

2: A minor malfunction in the machine causes an unexpected side-effect to occur; while Cream has gotten older, she has also become the opposite gender and has to stay that way, until Tails can fix the machine!
