Chapter #6

Worst case scenario...

"Help! Somebody help me!"

The tranquility if the moment was suddenly shattered as a panicked yell pierced the air. Luke, already on edge, jumped at the noise and instinctively dived into the cover of an open broom cupboard. It wasn't the bravest of positions, but Luke had quickly learnt that cowardice leads to a better chance of survival in the crisis. From Luke's scrunched position in the tiny off shoot, he peeped one eye out to get a view on where the noise might be coming from.

The screams had come from down the hall, around the corner and out of sight. The echoes that bounced of the desolate walls made it difficult to tell how far away the noise originated, which didn't help to calm Luke's nerves. Luke twisted his head to try and get a good listen of any follow up noises, but all he could hear where the sounds of wind and the occasional knocking from somewhere else in the building. Luke began to wonder if he had imagined the noise, but quickly dismissed it. He was scared, not insane. Instead, he began to weigh up the facts in his head.

At the most, the scream likely came from an infected student panicking at there growth. But at best, this could by a perfectly normal student who was injured or trapped. Someone rational and in need of assistance. Maybe someone Luke knew.

At worst of course, this was a student being hunted by the more crazed infected in the campus, looking for prey. Luke decided not to think about that one.

Luke ran all three scenarios in his head. In two of the three, he was safe, either helping a student or avoiding a new infected. Of course, the last scenario ended badly for him, but surely even so, he had the moral responsibility to see if this really was just a normal student. How would he like it if he was in a similar scenario.

Slowly creeping from his hiding place, Luke half walked, half crouched his way down the halls of the campus and through the twisting corridors, eventually reaching the last corner before the source of the first scream.

This close, sounds became more clear. He could hear footsteps, pacing not to far away, interrupted every so often by the sound of banging on wood. Luke took a breath and relaxed. A trapped student surely, locked accidentally in one of the old dorm rooms. Best case scenario, he thought to himself and he turned the corner to peak. Best case scenario. Best case scenario.

Worst case scenario.

The sight Luke saw sent chills down his spine. Down the hall, not 10 steps away, stood a giant of a man, looming over a locked storage cupboard.

Not only was he giant, at least 8 feet, the man was ripped beyond belief. Every part of him was packed with muscle, and his glistening sweat shone brightly off his 6 pack. His arms where bulbous, thick and sturdy, matching his toned legs perfectly. Despite the free gun show he displayed, he had enough modesty to repurpose some old fabric into a primitive, front facing loincloth, covering his crotch. Of course, it made little difference really, as Luke could still see the outer edges of his balls resting against the fabric quite clearly. He must have been as big as a soccer ball. The dark haired Goliath brushed one hand through his messy locks before turning to address the cupboard.

"Come in man, we're having a lot of fun in the courtyard, and we need people like you to keep the games going. Who knows, you might win."

There was a light pause before a wimped returned from the cupboard.

"G-go away you fucking freak, I'm not coming out"

The Goliath paused for a moment before putting one hand on top of the cupboard door. For how rude his prisoner was being, he didn't seem phased in the slightest.

"Look buddy, the rules are we've all got to bring someone back. I don't want to look like an asshole in front of my friends, you understand? So we can do this the easy way, or the still pretty easy way.

"Fuck you" a call came back from inside the cupboard.

"Suit yourself"

In one slick motion, the Goliath placed his fingers in-between the door and frame, and tore the whole thing off with a flick of his wrist.

Luke could only watch in horror as the man in the cupboard, a lanky nerd, was pulled kicking and screaming away from his cover and thrown onto the shoulder of the bigger man. He quickly lost his strength however and resided himself to his fate, going limp as the Goliath turned towered a nearby staircase that led to the courtyard, singing a merry tune.

Luke planted himself against the wall he had been hiding behind, utterly in shock at what he had witnessed. His mind raced with possible scenarios for what awaited the man in the cupboard. Games? What the hell did that mean? Nothing good by the giant's face, and nothing he wanted to stick around to see. Luke scurried to his feet, but not before catching a glimpse of the Giant in a nearby window, stroking across the empty park area. A niggle started to eat it's way into Luke's mind. Could he really leave? That man was in trouble, and one of the few non infected still left on Campus. Surely if Luke was in his position, he'd want help himself. Luke took one last look at the hallway. Run or help?
