Sarah touched her earpiece and mouthed a few words.
You suddenly remember that you never took it off and when you reached for it, you found it was gone. In a panic you yell at sarah, "OK I know i didn't remove my earpiece back when i left that first room and now it's gone. Where did it go and what is it?"
Sarah let go of her earpiece and tried to explain over your yelling, "It's integrated into your skin and is connecting directly to your mind. It's the announcement system for people who are in the academy. It saves the time for trying to get everyone's attention for the major schoolwide rule changes. Also it helps us keep track of you and identify whether or not you need to be replaced as well as you last status. Basically think of it as a tracking tag that gives you the announcements so you don't have to listen to a humongous PA system throughout the entire school. Trust me you don't want that it echoes terribly."
You try to recap, "So i have a PA system in my head?"
Sarah smiled a little bit, "You're entire body, but other than that you are right."
"It comes back out right?"
Sarah responds with an attitude that was both skeptic yet welcoming, "I don't think you can get it out as long as you're here. And once you get used to this academy I don't think you'll want to leave for quite awhile."
For a second you feel your head tingle and then you are asked by some voice in your head, "Where is your dorm room, what is your schedule?" you know the answers again and only after catching yourself about to answer out loud do you figure it out. "One last question. Why isn't yours integrated into your body?" at the same time you see that it was no longer there.
Sarah notices the shock on your face, "You have to think about having it available. That way you can use it to send signals instead of just receive. Just make sure you know who you're sending to."
