Chapter #29

Luffy Obeyed For The Newspaper Interview

    by: VS21 Author IconMail Icon
Luffy gulped as he looked on at the newspaper building that seemed innocent and nothing out of the ordinary for anyone else, but for Luffy himself, this felt like being led to the gallows...Because in a certain way to him, that's exactly what this was to him...

A newspaper interview with him and his big brothers, publicly displaying him like this would completely kill off any hope he had of being rescued by his crew because if they saw that interview, they'd think that'd he'd be doing this willingly! He wasn't, he was being forced into becoming a cabin boy for the Marines and away from his hopes and dreams of attaining One Piece and becoming King of the Pirates!

His body shook as they all approached the newspaper building and mentally Luffy was trying to steel himself and build up what will he had left in him after what he went through to try to run off and escape from his big brothers as they were leading him up to the door of the building before letting go of his hands...

This was it, this was what he could do, he could escape and be free again and... "Behave Luffy" Big Brother Vince called out once he realized that they were still there and looking on at them only reinforced the will those two kids, his big brothers had beaten into him...Even if he could escape, if he was caught again? Luffy shuddered at the thought of what humiliation the resulting punishment would bring to him...and besides, they still might make him go through with that interview even then...

So with a gulp and a resignation to the inevitable, Luffy soon led the way and opened the door to the newspaper office, mentally sealing his fate as a cabin boy for the Marines as James and Vince followed him both of them saying to him, "Good boy Luffy" smiling back at him and Luffy did his best to try to smile back because, if they liked this, he might get treated better in the future...And considering that was all that he had to look forward to, the will that Luffy had to escaped soon crashed out of his body, and now he only had one thing to look forward to in the future...So they sat down together in the lobby waiting for the receptionist to tell them the room they had to go into for the interview and so Luffy and his big brothers were sat across a snickering journalist taking in what Luffy was dressed in before getting the interview that would formally execute Monkey D. Luffy in the eyes of the public and make Luffy a Cabin Boy in training for the Marines...

~*~

THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY

Luffy's big brothers were informed that due to the nature of the interview and who was being interviewed, the interview would be posted on the following Sunday in order to ensure it had enough space that the newspaper could properly dedicate to it...

So it was the next morning, where Luffy still in a star-print pajama top that only went up to his belly button and his freshly changed diaper was put in his high chair as James came in from the front door saying, "It's here!" and happily put down the newspaper on the table and much to Luffy's horror, the news had to have had a slow cycle as the entire front page was dedicated to his interview with the newspaper...

"Aww, they put the best picture of you on the front page!" Vince said with a smile on his face as Luffy saw a picture of him all dressed up in his cabin boy uniform right next to the sign at the front of the Marine Academy, having been forced to smile by his offscreen big brothers and if one didn't know that, one would think that he was positively ecstatic about being able to go from a Pirate captain to a Marine cabin boy!

The interview covered everything the journalist asked him, who he was (Monkey D. Luffy, f-former captain of the Straw Hats and now cabin boy in training), who his big brothers were, (James and Vince), how did he end up like this, (Lost a fight to both of them and in the story that James and Vince forced Luffy to say to the interviewer, begged for forgiveness and said that he secretly always wanted to be a Marine Cabin Boy but never had the opportunity to be signed up for the Marine Academy when he was actually old enough to be one, but his kind and generous big brothers took pity on the begging Luffy and helped him get registered to fulfill his secret childhood wish) (in all honesty this was a great, big, fat lie, but Luffy was scared of his big brothers and so did as they wanted him to do...)

They even asked how he was doing in the Marine Academy so far...(Not doing as well as he'd hoped, his big brothers made him say that his time as a poopy pirate made it so that he couldn't be able to handle some of what the Academy was trying to train him to do, but with the help of his instructors at the Academy and his new peers, he was certain he'd a good cabin boy in the future...)

The interview concluded with them asking James and Vince on how they reraised a pirate captain into their little cabin boy brother...(Discipline, discipline and discipline coated with some degree of softness, Luffy was their little brother and they were willing to be kind as long as Luffy behaved, something that Luffy took to heart a bit)

Once the article was finished, Luffy thought that that was the last of it before Vince soon read out, "In addition to this interview, there are also articles in this edition of the paper that links with this interview, for World Government's official response to this interview, go to page A3, for a Straw Hat response, A7"

When hearing that Luffy paled at hearing a Straw Hat response to this interview, that quick?! as James was focused on the World Government response to this as he read out, "In regards to the revelations discovered in the interview with Monkey D. Luffy, the World Government has decided to formally revoke the bounty that was on the head of the former Straw Hat Captain Monkey D. Luffy" as Vince moved to get breakfast out for them saying, "Are we not going to get anything out of this?"

James cut him off saying, "Listen!" before continuing to read the official government response, "In regards to the brave decision taken upon two of our young and most upstanding citizens" Vince smiled at hearing that as James read out, "who even both at the age of 6, took it upon themselves to fulfill the childhood wish of a certain cabin boy in training, we will be awarding 60 million berries over a 20-year annual payment plan for the upkeeping of the young cabin boy who we hope to become a shining example in the Marine Force" With that James and Vince cheered happily and danced around the table hearing that, with that, they didn't have to worry about money at all and they could just focus on making sure that Luffy stayed on track to graduate the Academy and become a Cabin Boy...

Luffy's jaw dropped as he heard that as the kids soon controlled themselves after as James got to reading the Straw Hats article saying, "The Straw Hat Pirates, previously being led by their former captain have had made a huge upkeep over the past week, their bounties almost doubling from last week, seemingly inspired to reach their former captain's lofty mark and upon being asked a question in regards to Luffy, the acting captain, a woman by the name of Nami stated, "Well if this is our captain's true dream, who are we to stand by it? We accept Luffy leaving our crew and we wish him well in his quest to become a Marine cabin boy, hopefully we'll meet again in several years time on the seas..."

With that Luffy's head drooped, that was it, this was his life now, there was no hope for escape, no life for him but that of a cabin boy as Vince said, "Chin up little Luffy, tomorrow it's back to the Academy for you!" as he held out the sugary naval-themed cereal in front of him, a treat from Vince for Luffy's good behavior in the interview...

With that Luffy tried to smile the best that he could now, if he kept smiling enough maybe that story his big brothers made him say to the interviewer would be true, maybe he always wanted to be a cabin boy after all, as he looked down at the cereal and saw the ship-shaped marshmallows floating in the milk, Luffy realized that he was trapped in this new life of his...And if there wasn't a miracle out of the blue, it would nothing but a Marine ship floating into the seas one day, with him as its cabin boy...

---

Time sets ahead for Luffy but what awaits him now, fill in the choices below and decide for yourselves!
