Before Fredriek could finish, Raven was out the door. She made her way down the path that lead to the woods. The woods were so dense that the leaves blocked the sun out almost completely even though it was midday.
As she walked along she discovered a barren patch with a newly fallen tree. The tree would make excellent logs for her fire. She worked hard. Each step of the way was more and more arduous. Her arms began the slow ache that seemed to accompany new tasks. As a villager, she had always known hard physical labor, but the ax she was quite heavy even for her.
Finally, however, she did manage to chop enough wood for the next two or three days. It was now near noon and she would have to be heading back. In her rush to chop the wood, however, she had forgotten her wood wheel barrow. She knew she would have to leave her wood here and return home to get it.
Picking up as much wood as possible, she headed back into the woods.
