A Visit from Trouble

LATER THAT DAY...

"Thank you mother, for the wonderful dinner,"
"You're welcome, Raven. Oh, honey?" your mother asks.
"Yes?" you answer.
"Go in the kitchen and wash up the dishes, okay? Thanks."
You stack up the wooden bowls and the new, metal spoons and go to the kitchen.
As you are drying the last plate, you hear a knock at the door. From the other room, you can hear your father greet the person at the door. You strain your ears to hear what they are saying, but the walls are just too thick to make words out of their muffled mutterings.
Footsteps echo through the wall as the newcomer and your father pass the kitchen to the parlor. You hear several words as the pass the doorway, enough to grab your attention. You stop drying the dish to listen.
"Yes, Raven.." said the newcomer.
"But she wouldn't-" said her father.
"Would you like to see my son?" snapped the newcomer.
Raven recognized the voice of James' father.
"Oh no!" she thought.
