Lois was interviewing dr Jameson, so Clark took that chance to get a closer look at the kryptonite. He walked towards the box and touched the glass. But when he touched the box, the kryptonite suddenly started throwing rays everywhere. One of them hit Clark unprotected. He didn't knew what to do.
