Chapter #5

An Untimely Interruption

    by: Unknown
BOOOM!

Everyone scattered, or stood where they were and screamed as one wall exploded loudly, causing bits of drywall and brick to fly in all directions. Some of the gatherers ran, or vanished into thin air. The rest, including Kat seemed to be frozen where they stood as a group of six tall men entered the room through the whole.

Dressed in flowing black trench coats with matching gloves, pants and boots that weren't even marred by dust from the explosion, they spread out and eyed the gathered parties warily.

Five of the men each recited a spell that Dan couldn't understand and held out their gloved hands. A small fireball appeared from thin air, which the men held up threateningly, like a snowball with ice chunks in it.

The tallest of the men, a dark haired man with a military style crew cut, gazed at the party goers one by one, before his eyes rested on Kat.

Suddenly conscious, Dan moved to cover himself. Strange how the sight of his family didn't make him so modest.

"You don't have anything I haven't seen," the man said, not looking in Dan's direction. He approached Kat, pointing at her. "And you, young lady, are about to make the first biggest mistake of your career. It will be your last."

Kat lowered her eyes, flipping the page over like a kid who got caught drawing nude pictures in her math book.

"Who are you?" She asked, definatly.

"Your mother never told you about us?" The man turned from Kat. He wasn't in the least bit afraid of her. Dan couldn't tell if he admired him or thought he was a fool.

"Where are you Gwen?" He asked of the crowd.

Mom, it had seemed, was one of the ones who escaped. The other men scanned the crowd.

"She's not here," the dark skinned man with a dragon tatoo spoke up. "These are all extended family members. Mundanes."

The leader turned back to Kat.

"That's not looking good for you." He said, raising his hand and whispering in that language.

In a series of moments that happened too fast for Dan to percieve, he found himself wrapped in a coat very similar to the ones they were wearing. The cage snapped open and the book flew from Kat's hand and she was forced to her knees by an unseen force. The leader turned to Dan.

"What is your name?"

"You don't know?" Dan asked, surprised. He stepped out of the cage, wrapping the coat tightly around his body.

"How observant of you," he said, drawing a chuckle from the others. "I cannot read minds and you were not wearing a name tag at this gathering of fools. Now you have a choice. But first, I must have your name."

Dan didn't realize he was trembling until he looked down at his sister. She glared at the men with contempt, her eyes passing over them with an intensity that was as strong as...well, judging from the way the men stayed in their respective posts, about as strong as throwing Chiclets at an oncomming train.

"Daniel," he said, looking up at the leader.

"Daniel," The leader repeated. "My name is Marke Thornvauld. And like you, a person once abused magick power to humiliate me. All of us-" He swept his arm to indicate the remaining men. - "Have been violated by those like her."

Kat screamed in rage as Marke pointed at her. She jumped to her feet attacked, trying to claw at his face. He easily side stepped her, tripping her and allowing her to fall face first to the floor.

A series of chains appeared around her.

"And now we possess the powers of the ones who wronged us." Marke finished, never taking his eyes from Dan. "Daniel, that option is now yours. As I said before, you have a choice."
