When you were told that you were randomly chosen to play test Smash Ultimate, you were skeptical, but extremely honored. Now that you find yourself inside the game, you have a few new thoughts running through your head.
Instead of wondering whether or not this is real, you choose to focus on what’s in front of you: according to your guide, you’re now entering Smash Tower, the characters’ residence building. The floor that a character stays on is determined by the order in which they were introduced in the game, meaning a new floor is added every time a new character is invited.
Just as you enter the building, you bump into someone who, previously, you were excited to merely play as: an Inkling girl. She’s in her default orange costume, and she appears to have just gotten back from a match. Although you can’t understand each other beyond a greeting, she seems to understand that you’re a guest and quickly starts showing you around. After you’ve taken in the entire lobby, she drags you over to an elevator. She presses the “up” button, points toward the elevator, then points back to herself; you interpret this as her wanting to show you her room. You aren’t a big fan of enclosed spaces, but if you understand how this place works, then she must live on the 64th floor; you decide to suck it up and take the elevator.
You two enter the elevator and she presses a button on the top row. Just as you’re wondering how to take your mind off your discomfort, something else shows up that demands even more effort to ignore: the smell.
You noticed that your new friend smelled pretty ripe in the lobby, but seeing as she just got back from a fight, you didn’t think much of it. Now that the odor has invaded this entire space, you’re starting to suspect that it isn’t just the result of physical activity. You can’t really describe the difference apart from the strength (nor would you want to examine it to the point that you could), but it doesn’t seem like a purely “fresh sweat” smell. It’s more like she’s been skipping showering after fights for far too long.
You try to think of something that could explain this. You remember that Marie says some not-too-flattering words about Agent 3’s hygiene in your version of Splatoon 2, but who’s to say that the girl next to you is Agent 3?
The combination of her stench and your claustrophobia is making it extremely hard to mask your discomfort. Just as you’re thinking of stopping the ride short, a third thing catches your attention: this time, a sound. Glancing over, you see that your friend is rocking from the tips of her toes to her heels, and her shoes are making a squelching noise as she does.
Did she somehow get ink in her shoes during her fight?
