Anomaly in the Expanse

After the attack on Earth, you were assigned to the Enterprise as one of the MACO soldiers. Your mission was to help protect the Enterprise as it ventured into the Delphic Expanse (though most just call it the Expanse). For the foreseeable future, the only human contact you'd have would be your crewmates, Starfleet and MACO alike.
Shortly after the mission began (about a day or two after the encounter with the Klingons at the edge of the expanse), you met Ensign Sato, the comm officer. While your jobs were near polar opposites, you both hit it off fairly well. Even better, your shifts lined up amazingly, so you'd have plenty of off time together.
Of course, if the Expanse had a middle name, anomalies would definitely be it. One such anomaly would like change your life forever. This anomaly caused you to shrink to about an inch tall.
