You had just sat down for dinner, a brisket with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. Chef may not make it like you'd get at home, but it's something.
Right as you were about to start eating, your relatively new friend, Ensign Sato, approached your table. "Hey, ___, is anyone sitting here?" she asked, motioning with her head to the seat across from you.
"No, at least not last I checked," you said as you put down your knife and fork, "Of course that'd change, depending on you."
"Well then, consider it claimed," she announced, smiling, as she set down her tray. After she settled in, you two bantered and discussed your respective days.
"So," you asked, "Anyone... special waiting for you back home?"
"Aside from siblings, parents, or any other family, no. Why fo you ask?"
"Oh, no particular reason, just curious is all."
"Well that curiosity had to cone from somewhere."
"Don't worry about it," you said hastily, "Just small talk." Just as you finished your sentence, you were hit... with something. You didn't quite know what, but it caused your ears to ring and you yo fall over.
Later, you woke up on a bed, in what looked like a cabon on the Enterprise, but something was off. It was... bigger. Through the door you heard a male voice speaking. "In simple terms, I have no idea what's going on. What I do know is that you will have to take care of him until I have something figured out. I do not believe are many safe places in my med-bay for someone of his stature."
You then hear a voice that you believe to be Hoshi's, "I see. Well, I'll do my best, Phlox." Phlox, he's the ship's doctor, isn't he?
"I know you will, Hoshi. I will let you know as soon as I male a breakthrough." You then heard footsteps leading away from the door, which subsequently opened, and in walked Hoshi.
"Well, your commander already knows about the situation, so don't expect too much work for a good while."
"That's good and all, but what exactly is the 'situation?'"
"You've shrunk down to about an inch. Beyond that," she takes a pause, "we don't know. Until we do, I'll be taking care of you."
"You already outranked me, so now you have authority over my off-duty time too, huh?"
"It's good to see that you still have your sense of humor," she chuckled, then sighed in relief, "Oh, and sorry about the situation with your clothes... just don't think about it too much."
You looked down and sure enough, it was all out in the open.
"Well, I still have a couple hours before I need to lay down. Any ideas on what you want to do?"
