Chapter #5

Choosing day.

    by: Talcane Author IconMail Icon
It was Fifteen years later and you had grown into a fine strong human (Stronger then most of your own kind). Your had brought to the village when you were just an infant by your adopted mother, Lila, a Tan colored anthro wolfess with long brown hair, who vowed to raise you as her own, and she had named you Terra, which meant strong heart in their time. The anthros (all wolves) were touched rather then disgusted by her actions, for they had never seen a human baby before and all knew that if they raised you from this age and taught you the ways of the anthro and how the humans had wronged them for false crimes, you would find a way to bring about a common peace. The Council of the central village in which you now dwell and was the anthros stronghold in case of a large scale attack, easily accepted you and vowed to help with your protection against enemy forces. The village had kept you and the anthro children far from the humans for ten years and finally let you see what the humans did and said about anthros so you could know why the humans hated them. Not all surrounding anthro wolf villages approved of your presence among them and were always on alert when they were around you, though you always showed them kindness and trust and would not turn your back on the anthros no matter what, even after hearing the human side of the story. You always knew you were different in appearance, but many of the anthro adults had taken to notice the your personality was of anthro origin. At first they thought it was because of the way your adopted mother had raised you, but then found out a far deeper secret that explained why you were who you were and possibly why fate had brought you to them in the first place. When the other villages had learned of the secret, they understood why you were placed among them and treated you with more gratitude. What the secret was, you did not know, but would be told when the time was right. Tonight, you were heading back home from the the archery range with your bow and arrows, which archery was what you excelled in, even though you had some skill in swordsmanship, as did most, your one weakness was in spear throwing. You could easily jab, for you had good footing, but when you threw, your spear never seemed hit the target right at dead center, of course you weren't the only one who showed that weakness. Your best friend Aden, who was same age as you and was an anthro wolf with brown fur, also showed that flaw. As you walk home, you think about what tomorrow will bring, for tomorrow was choosing day, where you would be chosen to perform a certain specialty for the rest of your life. You hoped you and you friend Aden would become knights or anything that came close, such as the anthros rangers (who in this story are the ones of stealth and agility), who always seemed mysterious for some reason, and were of interest to you, even though they rarely were chosen. You hoped not to be place in some boring job such as farming, even though you knew how to farm a bit. You felt it would disgrace your mothers image if that happened. Your train thought stopped as a silver colored anthro wolf named Luri, Aden's year older sister and a girl you had major crush on, but were always afraid to talk to (which was another one of your weaknesses), comes up to you and asks, "How did you do at the archery range today?"

"Um.....okay I g-guess," You say nervously.

Luri giggles at your nervousness and says, "It was better than okay from what I've heard Terra."

You laugh nervously and Aden walks up and says, "I see my sister is making you nervous again."

"How is it going Aden?" You ask.

"Oh not to bad, getting ready for the choosing tomorrow. How do you feel about it?" he asks.

"A little overwhelmed. I don't want to disappoint my mother and hope I don't get assigned to some low type job. But hey, if that is what happens I can't change it," you say.

"Yeah I'm pretty nervous myself. Hope they don't make me a cook because of my sister, because I know diddly squat about cooking, no offense sis," Aden says.

"None taken little bro," Luri says.

"Besides, your one of the best young archers the village has seen in years. They definitely have to give you something good," Aden says.

"Terra, Dinners ready. Better get it while it's hot," Your mother says.

You lived right next door to your friend and had always played with him and his sister in your early years. His Parents and your mother were good friends and always talked about how the three of you got along. "Well I'll see you at the choosing tomorrow. Hopefully we both get something good," you say.

"See ya," they both say as they head over to their parents who had been watching you all with a smile.

You get inside and your mother had just pull out some oven roasted ham slices and bread. She had also made some broccoli, which wasn't your most favorite, but you would still eat it. You soon start eating as your mother asks, "So how was your day?"

You swallow and say, "It was okay, had a few sloppy practice shots then used my concentration and hit the bulls-eye every time."

"That's good honey, that should help you in the choosing tomorrow," she says.

"I sure hope so," you reply.

"Don't worry, whatever duty they assign you, it will be for a reason, and I'll be proud of you no matter what," she says.

"Thanks mom," you say, with a little doubt.

You soon finish your meal and your mother says, "You better get a good night's rest dear. You'll need to be up bright and early tomorrow for the choosing."

"Yes mom," you agree.

You soon get changed into your evening attire and drift off to sleep, as does your mother.

You have the following choices:

1. The next day at the Choosing.

2. Later in the night.
