Chapter #5

Nighttime Snack

    by: citywalker Author IconMail Icon
"A bite?" Kristofferson asked. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"Absolutely not," Ash said, snatching the fruit out of Kristofferson's paw and bringing it to his muzzle. "But when has that ever stopped us before?" Looking wide-eyed at the small glowing banana-shaped object, he sniffed it a couple of times. "Doesn't smell too bad. Especially for having been grown in a sewer."

A look of nervous excitement filled Kristofferson's face. "Well," he finally said, "are you gonna eat it?"

Ash glanced back and forth between the fruit and Kristofferson, eager but also not wanting to be rude. "Do you want to go first?"

Kristofferson thought for a moment. He was ready to find out what they were in store for. "Let's both take a bite at the same time," he said.

"What? How--?" Ash began to ask, but Kristofferson grabbed a hold of Ash's paw and brought it, and the fruit, up to his own muzzle. Sticking the fruit into his mouth but not biting down, he then took his other paw and reached around the back of Ash's neck, gently pushing forward until their faces were inches from one another. Kristofferson could tell Ash was getting a little aroused at being close enough to kiss his cousin. For some reason he wasn't entirely sure of, this seemed to excite the silver fox as well.

"Ofen yur mouff," Kristofferson instructed, his voice muffled from the fruit.

Ash did has he was told, and Kristofferson leaned forward, placing the opposite tip of the fruit inside Ash's lips. The glow shining from it illuminated the inside of Ash's mouth, causing a little light to leak from his nose. Kristofferson couldn't help but chuckle from the sight of this.

"Bife down on free," he instructed, holding up three fingers for added emphasis. "One, Two, FREE!"

Both foxes bit down, causing the insides of the fruit to burst through the skin. Neither of them expected the fruit to be as moist as it was, and as the juices dribbled down their muzzles, they both wiped them up with their paws, slightly embarrassed. Pulling back from each other, they started chewing, each pleasantly surprised at the substantial flavor, much like a cherry but with a little more tangy taste. The fruit itself was small enough that after splitting it in half, only a few chews were needed before the glow in their mouths started to die down. Ash swallowed his first, gulping it down quickly, while Kristofferson let his rest in his mouth a little longer, savoring the flavor, before finally swallowing.

"Well, that's it," Kristofferson said nervously as he wiped his muzzle one last time to make sure it was clean. "What's gonna happen now?"

"What makes you think I know?" Ash's ears twitched as he looked straight into his cousin's eyes. "Probably nothing, though."

The two young foxes waited for a few minutes, trying to see if they noticed any changes. After nothing happened, Kristofferson turned his head to Ash, yawning just a little. "Maybe we just have to sleep on it or something."

Ash didn't answer, his face full of disappointment. He crossed his arms on top of his knees and burrowed his muzzle in it, sighing softly. Kristofferson placed his paw on Ash's shoulder, trying to comfort the unhappy fox. "Don't feel so bad, Ash. At least the fruit tasted pretty good, right?"

"I guess..." Ash didn't seem to be looking any less upset. Kristofferson knew from experience that it was best to let Ash mope about these kind of things until the next day, when he'd usually forget about them (or bury them away inside, Kristofferson wasn't sure which).

"Okay," the silver fox finally said after waiting long as he could, "I'm getting pretty sleepy. I'll see you in the morning, Ash."

He got up off the bunk and started climbing down the ladder, until he felt his pajama shirt being tugged back. Looking up, he saw Ash's eyes, as big and as brilliant green as ever despite the darkness, looking at him pleadingly. "W-would you mind... sleeping next to me tonight?" the smaller fox asked.

Kristofferson tilted his head to the side, slightly befuddled. "Why?"

Ash turned away, his ears drooping. "I... I dunno. Forget I asked."

It certainly was a rather strange request, but Kristofferson couldn't bring himself to say no. "Sure I will, Ash," he smiled, causing his cousin's demeanor to brighten again. He climbed back up and lay down, Ash scooting closer to the wall. The twin bed certainly was a tight fit, but the two boys were able to make it work.

"Good night, Ash," Kristofferson said as he closed his eyes.

For a brief moment, Ash's paw brushed against his in the bed, and he heard a soft, barely audible moan escape Ash's lips. "Good Night, Kris."

Both boys slept soundly through the night, not having any clue of what they would be in store for when they woke up the next morning.
