Mom

In a quiet leafy suburb most of a family was sitting down to breakfast.

A large muscular man was maneuvering a plate loaded with buttered toast to the table as his teenage son finished laying the table. As they finished their jobs and sat down the boys older sister placed four glasses and a large pitcher of juice on the table and began filling the glasses.

"Where's Mom," asked the boy. At fourteen, it was obvious that he was going to turn out like his father. He was as tall as his sister, with a broad frame and plenty of muscle.

"She said she would be down soon, Jake," replied his father.

"It's not like her to be late for breakfast," said the girl in a worried tone. Although two years older than her brother, she was not as large as he was. They were about the same height, but her frame was a little narrower. She had a very athletic build - slim yet well-built with a thin hint of softness coating her toned muscles.

"I'm not THAT late," announced her mother as she strode into the room. A little taller than the girl she also had a lean, athletic figure. To the casual viewer it would be obvious that this family prided itself on its fitness and worked hard for it. She snatched up the newspaper from beside her husband's breakfast, rolled it swiftly, and belted him over the shoulder.

Her husband, a gentle giant at home, threw up his arms in defense. "What was that for?" he asked, pained.

"You got me pregnant last night!" she told him sternly.

"Pregnant? Are you sure?"

"I've been through it twice before. I know what it feels like. Already I can feel it settling in my womb."

"Well, it's unexpected, sure, but we can afford another child. Surely this is good news?"

"Oh yes? And who is going to carry it until it is ready? You?"

"I can't. I'm a drill sergeant. I need to stay at the peak of my fitness to put the men through their paces. I really can't do that with a baby inside me."

"Well, I have the national cycling championship later this year. I'm not prepared to pull out of that again this year."

Standoff.

Wondering how to fix this, the parents turn as one to look at their offspring.
