A year later, things were pretty much back to normal. Or at least as normal as they could get, there having of course been heaps and heaps of questions Ryan and the rest of his family had had to answer due his parent sudden separation. They collectively came up with the excuse that his parents had decided to get a divorce and Ryan and Ashley were given the choice of who to go with, and chose their father.
Susan went off to 'find herself.' She chose to stay away, waiting for her two children to accept her situation. This did not sit right with a lot of her friends, however, who were left completely surprised. But due to how differently she'd been acting the last few months they'd seen her, even they had to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Gradually, as the weeks turned into months, they accepted the fact that she was gone. The questions slowly became less and less. Ryan's father did receive the email from her every now and then. The two of them decided through this correspondence that a divorce was probably the way to go and set to work sorting out the various legal affairs with their lawyers, finally getting the paperwork a month or so later. Susan gave no indication, however, of where she was now or what she was doing.
Although his mother left contact information, if one day Ryan wanted to contact her again. Ryan had accepted his mother's situation. He was quite open minded about this. However, he hadn't had time to contact her because he was busy with school and other things. He hesitated, especially since it seems his sister still didn't accept it. It had been nine months since any of them had heard from her. Ryan hoped that she was happy where ever she was.
