Tsunade wasn't in her office. She was piggi...

Yes, her irresponsible Lady Hokage should be about due time for a checkup... should be.

She'd missed so much work in these last few hours, there was no telling what kind of shenanigans Tsunade might have been up to in her absence? The whole place could have burned down without dear old stick-in-the-mud Shizune around to keep things in check. But, from what she could make out of the Hokage's Palace just over the rooftops of Konoha, there was no discernible chaos that needed rectifying. No flames, no smoke, no ninja flying in or out of any windows, nor any desks doing the same. Things looked pretty tame inside that building over there...

So maybe another hour or two wouldn't have killed Tsunade?

After all, she had obviously done such a good job of keeping things in line so far. Maybe this was a sign that Shizune needed to loosed up on the older woman's figurative leash a bit?

Not too much of course; but just enough to warrant a little Shizune time of relaxation and peaceful digestion...

***

Shizune plodded her way up the stairs to the Hokage Palace some hour or so later not fully digested. The still-present contents of her stomach bulged outwards in a waterbelly that sloshed and gurgled as it struggled to do away with its maxxed capacity. The flight of stairs certainly wasn't the best thing that Shizune could have done with such a full tummy, and the postpartum stress of getting back to work was just twisting the knife.

No doubt Lady Tsunade was going to be royally upset at her for leaving for so long without notice. Especially if she noticed how full her stomach was; she'd never hear the end of it!

So, taking a deep breath that was part "soothe my indigestion" and even more "lets hope my boss doesn't kill me", Shizune knocked quietly on the door.

"Lady Tsunade..." she squeaked, "I-I'm back from my lunch break!"

Much to her surprise Shizune found that instead of the usual drunken banter or homicidal threats to those interrupting her drinking, the voice behind the door was one of jovial air, joined by two lighter voices sharing the same humor.

"Oh, Shizune come in!" Tsunade said happily from behind the door, "Sakura just made lunch!"

'Lunch?' Shizune asked herself quietly, 'And a late lunch at that. Prepared by Sakura? What's going on here?

Opening the door, trying not to seem put off or conspicuous in any light, Shizune was pleasantly surprised to see that young kunoichi Sakura Haruno and Ino Yamanaka had joined her, an aproned Sakura caught midaction as she gingerly placed a modest chicken dish in front of Tsunade while Ino still sat opposite from her Hokage.

"Oh, well this is nice." Shizune said pleasantly as she approached the desk, "You both decided to join Lady Tsunade for lunch today?"

Sakura, placing a plate down in front of Ino and standing to face Shizune, smiled kindly. "Well normally I'd have lunch with Naruto, but I've gotten into cooking lately and he doesn't eat much of anything that isn't cooked in broth or instant." she said kindly, "So I decided to make Lady Tsunade a meal and see if she liked it."

"She's a natural by the way, Shizune." Tsunade said with a happy smile on her face as she delicately pierced a small piece of chicken with her fork

"And Ino decided to come along too, once I told her that I'd be cooking."

The addressed blonde acknowledged her name with a wily smile, "Well you may not be the best looking girl around, what with that monster forehead of yours, but I'll give you this- my days around the Flower Shop have been made a lot more bearable by those muffins you bring me."

"Quiet Ino-Pig!" Sakura barked back quickly

Shizune noticed something rather odd about Ino in that instance. She couldn't quite place it, but she seemed just a hair's width wider than before. Maybe it was just because she was sitting down- she'd never seen her sit before...

Getting a big whiff of some pre-cooked chicken, Shizune's concerns regarding the Yamanaka girl were quickly cut off at the tail. While the mere thought of more food made her want to vomit, a bigger bust line certainly held lots of appeal that made it well worth the effort...

"Sakura, how long did you say you've been cooking?" Shizune asked politely as she took another deep inhale, "You must have had a lot of practice, your chicken smells great."

Sakura blushed slightly, "Well actually, I only found the cooking book about two weeks ago. But Ino says that I've gotten really good, and now Lady Tsunade's giving me high marks too. I must really be a natural cook after all, huh?" she laughed

Shizune's belly grumbled, not out of hunger but of fear. Fear because it knew the next words to pass from the breast-envious lips of its bearer:

"So, is there any left?" Shizune asked with a slight grimace, "I'd love to see how well you're coming along for myself."
