You imagined yourself wearing a suit of armor, eyeing the oncoming computer programs. You regretted it instantly, it felt like someone had dropped a ton of bricks on you. Instead, you thought of Kevlar. The lighter armor was better than the iron suit. For a weapon you were a little lost. Your knowledge didn't extend much past Call of Duty.
The horde was getting closer, and there were lots of them. Am ideal weapon would be a chaingun of some kind. Like magic, one sprung into your hands. It was very heavy, but you could still hold it. It was a lot more complicated to get it started than pulling a trigger. But finally it began to fire death into the oncoming foes. You and Julia fought as hard as two people with no combat training could, but that wasn't good enough.
Your weapon ran out of bullets, and although there were boxes of ammunition all around you had no idea how to reload one. Instead, you gave yourself a shotgun and began blasting away. All at once, the enemies were on top of you. You kept shooting. Nothing else was visible outside the whirl of bodies trying to kill you. After what seemed like hours, but could have only been seconds, the shotgun to was out of shells.
You began to strike with your fists, and the first humanoid you touched exploded in a pink mist. At first you thought you were super strong, but behind the monsters three Bradleys rolled up the street. Soldiers piled out, firing at the retreating enemies. They moved with true military efficiency, unlike your and Julia's frantic struggle. When a soldier passed a wounded program, they showed more ruthless efficiency. Each one got a bullet to the head, regardless of whether it was surrendering, pleading, or running. It partially made you sick.
"They are just doing as they are ordered. They aren't real soldiers, just how the system manifests its safety programs for its human users." The mysterious man had once again appeared. This time he looked different, somehow crueler with more evil. Or it was just your imagination.
"You shouldn't tangle with the corrupted programs. It will only give the enemy a better idea of how you fight. Let the system destroy them. They are no serious threat to anything here in their small numbers."
