Sam. The Center on the High School Football team

    by: Moe Author IconMail Icon
Sam was taking his afternoon jog that day in order to relax and not worry about his problems. He still wanted to stay in shape. His status for the next game still was uncertain because of his minor neck injury. The day before, the doctors even wanted to check Sam for any concession problems the next day.

Sam soon was jogging nearby the Catholic Church where he noticed a young boy being pinning against the wall. He frowned at what he saw. Sam did not like bullies and felt that he had to stop them somehow. He also knew the coach of the Football detest any of his players for fighting. The coach warned them that any fighting is subject to being kicked off the team. Yet Sam decided to talk to them first. Maybe his presence will be enough.

Josh did notice the football player jogging up to Ben and Charles. Sam stood behind them, saying in a low tone, ' Okay, I think that you had enough fun. Let the young man go.'

Ben turned around and saw Sam and knew whom Sam was. But Ben said ' Go away; besides you are not Catholic but Methodist' But Sam said ' It does not matter. Let him go or else.' Ben laughed, saying, ' If you try to fight us, Coach may just kick you off the team.'

Sam backed up, wondering what he should do. Then he made his decision. Sam grabbed Ben by the collar and lifted him up. But that was all. Sam did say 'Do you want me to throw you and Charles over there by the bushes? Or will you let Earl, if that is his name, go NOW.' Sam did shake Ben a couple of times. Meanwhile Charles pushed Earl on the ground. Earl was dizzy when he fell on the concrete. Charles slyly took his camera phone out and filmed Sam picking up Ben and shaking him. Then Charles uploaded it to YouTube where the coach eventually will find out in a couple of days.. But he said nothing to Sam. Charles titled the YouTube clip Bully picks up Victim and shakes him.

Charles did say '' Okay, we will scram out of here. Come on Ben, let's go. We can't fight a football player.' Charles whispered what he filmed on his camera phone to Ben. Ben grinned then they both left.

Sam held out his hand to help Earl up and asked if he was OK. Earl nodded that he was okay. Then both of them walked up to Josh. They all introduced each other to Sam. Josh knew that Sam did something brave to help Earl. But Josh did not want Sam into trouble with the coach. He also did a private medical scan on Sam's neck and brain. Josh realized that the neck problem was minor and would be healed in a week.. However the concession on his brain was worse that expected. The worst of it would not take affect until 2 years later.

Earl said to Sam ' I know that you are not Catholic but it is OK to visit our parish if you wish.' Sam replied ' I might but I might feel a bit uncomfortable...even though I like the organ playing some of the classic hymns as 'How Great Thou Art'. Earl then said " I am not trying to force to go. That's OK. But I will to tell you Thanks again, from those bullies. I hope that you would not get into trouble. I will vouch for you if the coach hear of it.' Suddenly there was a sound of thunder. Then Sam said ' Well, maybe I will stay a short time. I do not want to get caught in the rain.' So Earl, Josh, and Sam entered the parish. Sam took a seat near the back where most visitors stay. Meanwhile Josh knew what should be done first.
