Chapter #19

Michael tries to log off but something goes wrong.

Deciding first impressions where important, Michael decided to log off and jot them down. He returned to the main menu and selected exit only to find nothing happened. He tried again. And again. And again. Each time he got no response. Maybe a voice command would do it? "Exit! Quit! Log off! Log out!" Again nothing happened. "Tech support! Help!" This finally got Michael a response. A small fairy with long blue hair popped up in right in his face.

"Hiya! I'm Auxi the AI helper fairy! I heard your cries for help! What seems to be the problem, miss?"

"I can't log out. I've tried the menu and voice commands."

"Oh wow, that is a problem." Auxi's eyes began to spin like a mouse cursor before returning to normal. "It seems this is a known issue. The development team is working to resolve it. Current estimate is unknown."

"Are there any possible work arounds I can use now?"

"There is a possible work around reported. There is an option to set your current character appearance as your physical avatar using the latest nanoprocessing technology. This will switch your interface to the operating system and allow you to log out them there. This is not recommended unless you have saved your physical avatar's current appearance as the process cannot be undone without the save file."

Physical avatar? Nano processing? Michael wasn't sure what Auxi meant by this. He certainly didn't remember setting a physical avatar. Maybe it was for a virtual chat room? It wouldn't hurt to look like this princess in VR chat for a bit. "I can change the physical avatar again, right?"

"Of course, although for safety reasons, it can only be modified once a week in a rolling seven day period."

"That's weird," Michael replied. "But it will allow me to log out of the game?"

"Yes, it has been reported as a functional work around for the log out glitch reported in this game. Would you like me to assist you in setting your current character's appearance to your physical avatar? The process will take roughly half an hour to complete."

"Half an hour to make changes to an avatar?"

"The physical avatar is complicated. The development team hopes to have the time taken to change its appearance and wait time between changes to both be reduced in the final version."

Something seemed off about this to Michael, but if it let him log out of the game, it might be worth it. But on the other hand, who knew if this was buggy too.
