You sighed as you watches the fire in the middle of the night. You didn't feel comfortable trying to sleep in this situation, so all you could do was sit there, doing your best to let your mind relax, knowing you might have to jump up at a moment's notice. You quietly glanced at the fox. His body shivered and shifted as he awkwardly rolled around. His sleep was light, and the weather certainly didn't help him to rest. You kept one eye on him as he moved about, hunched over as you did your best to keep warm.
You heard him shift around, his eyes slowly opening and turning towards the fire. He made a soft sound as he looked towards the fire, and for a moment, he seemed reasonably relaxed. He turned slightly, but his eyes widened as he suddenly saw you. He scrambled onto his feet, wincing and clearly in pain as he tried to get back onto his feet.
"Take it easy! Look, you were badly injured, and-" You barely had time to react. He brought his hands up, a small light shining as he tried to mutter something. However, they seemed to scatter into the air, dissipating around and harmlessly scattering across the chasm. His eyes widened, and he tried to repeat the process, only to see the same result. You slowly approached, trying not to startle him. He backed away, glaring straight at you as he stepped against the wall.
"Look, your throat's not in any good shape." You try to point at his throat. He kept his eyes on you as he raised a hand to his throat. He hesitated as he felt a bandage wrapped over it. He tried to hold one of his hands out, trying to put distance between the two of you. "You can barely talk right now! You're hardly in any condition to do something like that... You're barely able to stand right now! You're not in any condition to fight!"
He growled softly, moving and edging away from you. He seemed ready to dash at a moment's notice, and only stopped when you stopped approaching him. You sighed as you sat back down, looking straight at him. "Look. I promise, you'll be fine as long as you don't push it. I don't want someone's death on my hands. I did my best to patch your wounds, and there's nobody else here. If I wanted to kill you, you wouldn't still be here. And we're far too deep in your territory for me to try anything. So please... Just try to relax, okay?"
