Chapter #5

Reunion

"Meet me on the roof." Ferion did his best not to show a trace of emotion as he spoke, and his voice seemed steady. However, you could see the uncertainty reflected in his twinkling eyes. He looked at you for a moment, before breaking away, his body moving in a quick stride as he moved through the doorway. Even as you watched him go, he didn't seem to be rushed. His walk was the same steady, practiced shifting he always seemed to use, and his posture maintained the same grace he always had.

You quietly packed your violin back in its case, before standing up slowly. Whatever you were expecting, it certainly hadn't been this. You weren't even sure if Ferion was acknowledging you or not. However, there really wasn't any choice for you to make. You had to follow him, and to talk to him. Now that you had confirmed it was really him, there was no way you could simply leave.

You moved back through the building, his tail catching your eyes as he waited near the top of the stairwell. He pushed the door open when he noticed you, quietly slipping through it. It was a bit of a climb for you, with one hand carefully holding onto the case. You were a little out-of-breath when you reached the top, before pushing the door open.

A small gust of wind brushed over your body when you made it outside. You took a quick glance around, only to see other, taller buildings surrounding the area. It felt a little crowded, and you tried to glance around the area, looking for where he might've gone. You couldn't see his figure anywhere, and he was certainly capable of making himself known if he wanted to. However, you did notice a rather small room, so you walked towards it quietly, opening the door and peeking inside.

Ferion was waiting for you there. He sat on a small bed quietly, his head turning to the door as you entered. It looked like he had put a little bit more clothing on while he was waiting, but it was all loose on him. His shirt was baggy, though it barely covered his stomach, and his legs were still clearly exposed. You could only look for a moment before turning away, trying not to stare too long. You were a little surprised as you looked around the room. Compared to where you had been, the place was rather sparse. It didn't have the same dim lights, the gaudy decorations, the music in the background...

"This is my real room. For when I don't need to put up with some random, desperate guy." You heard his voice, but kept yourself from looking right at him. Instead, your eyes seem to bounce around the sides of the small space. The walls were pained a faded shade of red, and had a couple of photographs around. There were a couple of chairs, and on his desk was a small TV, and...

Your heart seemed to pause when you saw it. It was an old photograph of the orphanage, and of you two. You had gotten it taken when you were both going to leave together. You couldn't really say anything, and only took a minute to get a good look. Ferion followed your gaze to it, and let you look for a while, but his voice eventually broke the silence.

"I was wondering when I'd see you again..." You felt him take your arm and pull you in against him, hugging you tight. You had to give a small grunt as you felt him, his fur brushing up before sliding you sideways, sitting you next to him. He had a wide grin on his face as he spoke, staring at you. "It's really been... four years? Hard to keep track..." He simply held your hand firmly, and while your mouth was a little dry, you did your best to speak.

"Longer than I would've liked..."

He shook his head as he stared at you. "Better late than never." You felt his hand shift gently over your leg, leaning in closer as he held tight to you. "I was surprised to see you, though... Never thought you'd ever end up coming to a place like this..."

You shook your head quietly. "I wouldn't. Just... You're an exception. I thought I saw you, so... I wanted... I had to make sure."

"Did you enjoy the show?" He asked with a mischievous voice, his tail flickering over your lap.

"Hard not to. You always were a good dancer, and you were good at... expressing yourself." You tried to dig around for the right words, but he didn't seem satisfied. You could feel his hand reaching around, slipping a little under your shirt. You held his arm in place, your voice still steady as he moved. "I... can see why people would be interested in a night with you."

You heard a quiet chuckle, before his tongue lightly flicked up your neck. "Oh? So..." His voice made you pause, the sound of it somewhere between a growl and a purr. "Are you interested?" You had to swallow as you felt him eyeing you up quietly. His tail seemed to slip against you, and his leg slid along yours. You tried to back away a little, hesitant on what he was doing, before he suddenly just burst into laughter. He held onto your shoulder with both of his hands, pressing you down onto the bed as he held tight.

"F-ferion! What's the big idea?" You couldn't help but stutter it out as he shook his head, trying to steady himself as he quieted down. He wiped his eyes a bit, before sitting up and grinning.

"Oh, man... Still the same... I can't believe you're still like that!" He grinned as he looked at you, his tone finally settling back on the cheerful one he always seemed to have in the past. Even in the roughest times, he had managed to keep a smile on his face, and it was the first time that you had seen a genuine one tonight.

"I can't believe this! You were acting that entire time?" You tried to keep your composure, but he kept laughing as he tried to look back at you.

"Maaaaaybe. Maybe not." His laughter finally quieted down as his hands slid down, settling on the side of the bed. "I really am glad to see you again, and I have to admit, I'm interested in what you think about me." He shifted his hand onto the back of yours, giving a light squeeze. "But if it really was you, there wasn't going to be any way you'd let me do that without dinner and a movie first, right?"

"Y-you!" You firmly pulled his head in, wrapping your arm around and just running your fingertips through his fur. He kept laughing as you tried to hold him, just letting you dig for a moment before you felt his head drag your arm down, his whole body swelling up for a moment as he shifted into you.

When you finally let go, he sat back down, though he didn't bother to shrink again. He did his best to keep looking at your face as he spoke, though now you were firmly seated on his lap. "I really am glad to see you, though. I've only heard bits and pieces, but it sounds like you're doing well. I'm... glad you got to put my gift to good use."

"I... didn't think you'd end up using my gift in something like this, though..." You reached up, giving the bell a small jingle. His whiskers seemed to droop as he heard you speak, but he quickly responded.

"I didn't plan on this, either. It only happened when I caught some guy's eye... One thing lead to another, and..." He swallowed and shook his head. "Look, I know it's not the best thing. But I am happy here." His voice almost had a pleading quality to it, and he hugged you tight against his stomach as he spoke.

"You... You like this job?" Your tone was incredulous, but he seemed to give a nod.

"Not all of it, I'll admit. There are some people I'd rather not meet. But... But I enjoy doing a lot of this." He picked you up easily, holding you gently against his body. "I like being able to do something like this... To have this kind of freedom with my size and my body..." He shifted you slowly, turning you to look you straight in the eyes. "I like being able to show off my skills a bit..." His tail gave a small flick as he turned, your eyes unable to help staring as he gave a bit of a pose, his once-baggy clothing tight against him and exposing most of him to you. "And I like knowing that people..." He growled playfully, one of his hands brushing over the front of his crotch. "Enjoy this..." He slowly let you down, his voice a little concerned as he spoke. "I didn't have too many options after we left, but... I'm content with things. It may not be what I planned on, but I like being able to do this..."

His voice seemed to fade a little. He certainly seemed confident on stage, and while he was alone with you, he didn't really seem to be acting. He genuinely felt comfortable with his life right now, but you couldn't help the part of your mind that seemed to be nagging you. You closed your eyes and gave a quiet sigh as you tried to think of what you'd say.
