"Josh! Breakfast is ready!" Josh's mom called up to him.
"I'm coming!" Josh replied as he pulled on his shirt and went downstairs into the kitchen. There his little brother Keith and little sister Megan were already eating their food and their mother placed a third plate in front of Josh as he sat down.
"Good morning sweetie, excited about your first day at school as a 17 year old?" His mom asked.
"It's just another day of school mom." Josh said as he picked up his fork to start eating, but when he looked at his mom he frowned. For some reason she looked…different somehow. Maybe it was the way she did her hair or something, but there was something off that Josh couldn’t quite get.
"Is there something wrong?" His mom asked when she noticed him staring.
“No, it’s nothing.” He shook his head and continued to eat. He was probably just imagining things or something. Josh was still a bit upset that his mom got him a crappy game that didn’t even work.
“Hey mom, can we go shopping after school?” Megan asked. “I need some new clothes.”
“But you just got new clothes two weeks ago.” Their mom said.
“But they don’t fit right anymore.” She complained.
“That’s why I told you to buy something a bit roomier.” Their mom sighed.
“Ah don’t bother mom, she’s just getting fat.” Keith snickered.
“I am NOT getting fat!” Megan glared at Keith.
“Okay, enough fighting you two.” Their mom said. “Hurry up and finish breakfast, your bus should be here soon.”
Megan shot Keith another dark glare, but the two of them resumed eating. Now that she mentioned it, Megan’s clothes DID look like it didn’t fit quite right to Josh. He shrugged it off to some shrinkage in the wash, and it was her fault for buying clothes too small in the first place like mom said.
In a few minutes Josh finished eating breakfast, got his bag and went to the bus stop, ready for another average day of school. Little did he know that the day was going to be anything BUT average….average height that is.
