Dr. Wills was going to have Rae go next, wanting to see how a person of a different ethnicity would be affected by the machine, but then decided to let Jay go instead. Eventually, all of the subjects would be tested on anyway, so it didn't really matter who went next.

"Fine," the doctor said, gesturing Jay to take a seat atop the machine. He eagerly sat down.
