“Dolls? Sure. “ said Ash. Emily walked over to a cupboard. Instead of the large doll he was expecting, he was astonished to see tiny figures held between her fingers. As she placed them down before him, Ash’s astonishment grew.
“Emily, do you know what these are?”
“They’re Dolls. Aren’t they?”
“No. Well, that’s not what they were originally intended for anyway.” Ash bent closer to examine the ‘Dolls’. “Emily, these are Department Store Mannequins.”
Emily frowned in confusion. She knew what a Store was, but the other….. “What’s a Mannequin?”
“Do you know what a store is, Emily?”
She nodded.
“Well, some stores use these people shaped statues to sell the latest clothing. They put the cloths on the statue and when a customer walks by one of these they can see what the clothing looks like worn. If they like the clothes they go in and buy it. “
Ash noted that the clothes on the Mannequins were several decades out of date. Most likely from the mid to late 1980s, judging from the bright neon material.
“Emily, where did you find these?”
“In a tree stump ,just behind the house. Do you want to see?”
“I would at that. But it’s getting late, maybe tomorrow. In the meantime. Let’s play. Um, Emily, what kind of play to you have with these Mannequins?"
