Francine began to stand up. The sudden movement caused Ash to fall on his back in the cusp of the Ear.
"Sorry" she said "I'll try to move more carefully."
"Okay, but try to be natural about it. If you walk about all stiff like that and they'll ask questions."
"Okay"
"I'll just stay quiet. If you were to talk to me it would look as though you were talking to yourself."
Francine slipped her sneakers back on and opened the door to her bedroom. From inside her ear Ash watched through thick ropes of hair as the world outside opened up. Ash thought that riding on a giant this large was almost akin to riding the sand worm from Dune. The moment Francine walked into the kitchen area of the apartment and he saw the rest of the family Ash let out a gasp of astonishment. He had thought Francine to be the largest creature he had ever seen in his life. Her family towered over her. It was almost too much for his mind to process.
Francine decided that it was best to simply ignore her passenger and sat down with her family at the table. She poured herself a bowl of what passed as lucky charms in this reality and took part in the morning conversation. As for Ash, he was quite content to be the quiet observer. Though to be fair, he could only observe one side if her head. From his perspective through the thick hair he could only make out Francine's sister eating her own bowl of cereal. The first loud "CRUNCH" of Francine's first spoonful of cereal being eaten startled Ash. He had no idea it would be so loud. For some reason between observing Catherine eat and listening to the crunching of Francine's chewing he was reminded of Honey I shrunk the Kids. He watched a spoonful of cereal lifted out of the bowl and enter Catherine's smiling mouth and envisioned himself trapped in that spoon. It made him feel fearful, and yet strangely excited.
Suddenly Francine turned her head to talk to her father. It was something Ash wasn't prepared for and he found himself falling head first over the side of the ear.
