The grin on Eric's face was now almost from ear to ear, his eyes focused intently on Natalie. "Oh nothing mom." He said " I was just talking about spiders".
"Spiders? Eugh! You know I hate spiders, dear." Her face contorted to form an expression of disgust. "Why were you talking about spiders anyway?"
Eric shrugged. "You'll see." He said cryptically.
She moved to take another sip of her tea, when her arm brushed something warm. An unfamiliar sensation was coming from her sides. She looked down, and saw 4 bulges growing on her abdomen, two on each side. Her first reaction was one of disbelief. Then, when the bulges started to extrude further, she felt a searing cramp in her stomach. "I feel..." Was the only thing she could exclaim before she doubled over and everything became black.
The first thing she saw when she came to was Eric's face looking down at her. She was lying on the kitchen floor next to a toppled over chair and a puddle of spilled tea. She tried to get up, but her arms and legs were tangled up somehow making it difficult to find support. She fell back down, feeling helpless. She moved her hands up to inspect them and was greeted by two pairs of hands."Oh god. I think we need to go to the hospital. I'm seeing double." A Panicky tremble growing in her voice. She tried moving them around, and came to the staggering realization that she wasn't seeing double, she was actually in the possession of two pairs of hands. Laying there, experimenting with her hands.
"It's so weird..." She finally exclaimed. All the while, Eric stood over her silently.
"How do you feel?" He asked
"How do I feel? I feel like I'm the incarnation of Vishnu. Other than that I'm peachy, thanks. Help me up, will ya?" She held out her two right arms for him to grab.
"Are you sure you're ready to get up, mom? You might wanna look down first."
As she did, she noticed that not only had her shirt been torn apart by her new limbs. A midst the rags that were once her pants were four leg. Two just above what was once her pelvis and two from her lower back. This time, her reaction was a mild "Oh". She tried moving the legs separately and came to the conclusion that they were more flexible than her old legs. Even though they still resembled human legs, she could tell they were longer and thinner than her legs used to be. After some trial and error, she managed to get up on all fours, almost hitting her head on the lamp. She found it was easier to keep her knees bent, so that she would constantly be in a crouching position. She tried a few laps around the kitchen, using her lower arms for support wherever she could find it. "This is actually pretty cool. Oops!" She said, when she accidentally knocked over another chair. "I'd have to be a bit more careful."
When she felt like she had the hang of moving around, she went in search of a mirror. She literally climbed up the stairs and went into the bathroom, where a standing mirror gave her the first chance to see herself fully.
